The last two days have been all about handing out with our genteel, down to earth totally chill bangalore Audiophiles.

Each and every system i listened to was a treat, each and every one quite remarkable in the way they were sounding.

most importantly, the warmth and camaraderie among our ranks is of the highest order.

Saturday started off with listening to Stevieboy's Lyrita audio based analogue setup.
Very well made speakers, amp and phonostage looked great as well.
But when i heard the prices for each of the components i was pleasantly shocked. Steve played a few records for me on his Project 9(i think) TT. The sound was very organic, and the full range drivers were imaging great and could actually have a coherency across the freq spectrum with enough low end extension to satisfy most music.

All in all a very fine system for the price. I am happy to see Steve has taken the bold step into vinyls, something that i keep chickening out of. I would have loved to listen to the Garrad as well..but perhaps another time when you havve it all setup

hats off to Viren for making some very fine equipment and pricing them just right.

Next I moved on to Siva'jis place..Steve was invited as well as he was close by but he had some exams coming up (best of luck btw).
When i pulled up next to his house, i realised he had new house..mighty fine looking one too. He met me at the gate and ushered me in. As i walked in, i saw a coupleof huge behemoths with their faces tilted slightly down looking menacing. But they were nothing compared to the massive wooden blocks with bright glowing glass bottles sticking out of them, flanking on either side of a center rack with a couple of gorgeous wood cased electronics

My jaw dropped and was blown away at the sight. IT was impressive in every definition of the word.
Siva sir tortured me by having us eat lunch first before listening to that gorgeous monstrosity.

Once done with lunch, we moved to the listening room, those so far silent behemoths sizing me up as Siva sir gestured me to sit down in the "sweet spot".

From the moment I sat down to the moment i reluctantly had to draw the audition to an end, I knew what I was hearing was something that couldn't be matched unless you spent a ton of money and time integrating the components to worrk as one unit. This system was so tailor made by Siva, over a period of 10 years that his devotion, passion and all the other possible adjectives to decribe his love for the quest of "his sound" shone trough.
Unfortunately I did not have any CDs with me as i packed hurriedly, but even this turned out to be a blessing in disguise of sorts as for the next 2.5 hours Siva's taste in music dazzled me and left me breathless for more. That reminds me i need to have him send me a full list of the tracks/cds he played.

Notable were the planets By Holst i think, Uranus the Magician was the track. Eva Cassidy sounded like she had come down from heaven to sing was us that day. The Grandma song was downright insane to listen to. That was the first time I heard taht track. He also played some LIvingstone something which also sounded great.

In the midst of all this we got around to compare our DACs, my Assemblage DAC 2.7 and his own home brew CD player.

While my DAC was commendable in its performance something was sounding off in the 4-7kHz range. Siva rightly i think pointed out that it is due to the analog filter on the output stage of my DAC. He said his ran without a filter as well and this was the reason why there was a lack of phase coherence on my DAC.
I will experiment on this further.
I could go on and on extolling the Siva's system but only justice that can be done to it would be to actually listen to it. This is the level of DIY i aspire to, look up to. Perfection, evolution of tastes, of thinking, of individual thinking!! I thank you sir for such a great treat.

I had to meet other friends, in hindsight I probably should have blown them off and enjoyed the system a bit longer

I rarely request to have folk take a picture of me with their systems, but this was special. It was a treat to my senses in every way and i wanted a souvenir and Siva graciously agreed to take a pic. He might post it later on this thread perhaps.

I will post soon about my Sunday with the ever amiable Abhi and Arjun. Oh and also Vinny(square wave) who i had the pleasure of meeting for the first time.

Sorry for the longish post..

hi sachi welcome back to vu2 land. I am glad to know that you had spent quality time by visiting fellow audiophiles based at bangalore.

Even I was told that siva's new set-up is awesome, in particular the speakers. One of these days, I am planning to drop in to listen to his set-up.

If you are free you can drop in to listen to my set-up.

i guess Siva has put his finger exactly on the only deviation..something i could not really explain (And not surprisingly )..but overall the details/dynamics and the superb bass on your dac was really amazing
It showed up the differences between the ICs and the Digital cables So well

Hey Sachi, Nice to see you after a long time.
I really wished we could have had a Bangalore meet once again in your presence but could not initiate it due to work pressures.

I always knew you would love Siva's setup . We all do !!
We have seen it progressing each level. It is definitely in its best avatar now. And I am sure the sound from his system is one of its kind...very very hard to replicate .
Yea those two behemoth monoblocks are real Gems. While system synergy is always true, to me those monoblocks are the stars of the system. I am yet to hear another amplifier like that.

And your DAC...Man it rocks !! Dont sell it..please. It did tell where the Reimyo could improve . It was the PRAT.
I knew about this factor even before but this time it was pretty clear. It was also clear how PRAT helps musicality.
Superb .

You really live in the land of opprtunities

Yes;
Siva is a great host & Mrs. Siva makes the 'best' Dosa's ever. He does have a nice house too.

Do write about AP & ARJ's set up.

It was a pleasure having you over. Unfortunately I could not make it to Abhi’s house. I am sure you all had lots of fun.
I wish I had a digital cable lying around. I could have checked out your DAC.

Yes Bhagwan. The spikes are new. The old spikes were not designed to take the weight of the speakers..

I agree with Arj...you have a good eye for detail. Many of my friends did not even notice this..even in person

Is that you Siva??

Speakers are awesome and is this the same pre amp what Abhi pani had? Hmm This looks like a good reason for me to drop for a listen!

Well then am sorry if it isn't you. Even the guy in pic doesn;t look too young as you mention, maybe a bit shorter than Prithvi !!

BTW what are the specs of the speaker?

He is quite an young gentle man...still studying.

There are no specs as such for speakers...i never bothered. .. except for ensuring basic parameters like impedance, FS and GD curves are all decent.

Thanks Siva sir for posting that pic. What a fun time meeting you, listening to your system and music.

Now I should have posted this a while back but just got caught up with school..anyways here goes.

So on Sunday the plan was to assemble at Abhi's place. We tried to get reignofchaos to join us but he never picked up his cellphone. Vinny (squarewave) thought we were all going to his place so he didn't show up.
Nonetheless, the ever affable Abhi warmly invited myself and Arj (Arjun) over. It had been ages since I met Arjun. Last i remember seeing him was the first time i met him at Prithvi's place when he had his Sugden amp over to audition.

Abhi's daughter is cute as hell but boy can I imagine Abhi being busy trying to keep her naughty hands off his audio system.

Anyways, moving on, pleasantries were exchanged, we sat down to listen to Abhi's system. I am not good at writing reviews but suffice it to say I loved what I heard. We did some cable swapping, digital and analogue. His Reimyo DAC was quite revealing and brought out each nuance between the cables. The Yamamura Millenium series do have a lusheness about them especially so in the midrange.

His ATC speakers were just stupendous in voicing and tonal balance. Abhi clearly has put in a lot of effort in getting his system right(but yeah he is selling off his speakers now to go active ). Not to mention he has a ton of money invested in cables. I never knew when I first met Abhi that he would even spend as much money as he has in cables on speakers so this was quite a pleasant shock to me.

We switched between the Einstein ICs and my own Grover SX ICs. The grovers were far more detailed, lots of sparkle with decent balance in the midrange but was missing the spot when it came to bass. While the EInsteins did everything well, so we decided to stick with the Einsteins.

Next we moved on to some source comparisons. We switched out his Reimyo with my Assemblage DAC. I was soo happy to find out that my DAC was on par with the Reimyo though each was edging out the other in different areas. My DAC had better control in the low frequinces, more micro detail, bit more spacious feeling and brilliant prat. The Reimyo on the other hand excelled in the midrange and had all the details. It was lacking the immediacy and dynamics compared to the assemblage. The Assemblage would have trumped it if only for the midrange response. Something just wasn't sitting right. I still haven't tried to mess with it, but will get to it eventually.

Abhi and Arjun both insisted that I donot sell my DAC, and I don't intend to till the day I build my own or I find the TPA Buffalo to be better

We winded up our sessions and bid our goodbyes.

Abhi and myself made our way over to Vinny's place. Was the first time meeting Vinny. The guy is enthusiastic and a pleasure to hang out with. He ushered us in and since we were short on time went strraight to auditioning his system which were basically made by SIva. the Same Acoustic Portrait preamp as Abhi's but also had the matching monitors . It is a wonderful and ear pleasing combination I heard. Those monitors could easily hit those low notes while being refined, not much cone breakup in the mid bass. I loved it.
We squeezed in a quick IC comparision against his Murthy ICs and my Grovers. Murthy's trumped out the Grovers.
As we wound up and made our way to the car we chatted a bit about Vinny's and Abhi's audio journey thus far.

It was a pleasure meeting VInny finally and look forward to hanging out with the Bangalore guys when the opportunity arises once again.
Thank you all for a wonderful weekend.

Sachi, thanks for your kind words. You are one of the earliest member of we small group of audiophiles in BLR. I remember we started meeting in groups through this forum and it was you who would always be there for all such meetings and auditions. Though you were here after a long time but I still thought you were more of a host than a guest .

As already mentioned before, your DAC is too good to sell.
And, my cables, they are all going...I am done with all the experiments for now .
As for my ATC, I have not yet given a serious thought about selling it off, I would only think about it after getting an audition of the actives....I do not know what I can expect of it but I am extremely happy to have stumbled upon this brand of speakers .

It was great meeting you Sachi.

The cable comparison was nice. Just to correct you, the IC which trumped the Grover was Siva’s IC made with the studio cable.

Good fun we had.
