Bharathana, I strongly suggest that you get hold of their CDs instead--what would you do with the "musical women" themselves?

Another album that I would recommend is The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions by the uber blues legend, Howlin' Wolf. It was one of the first of the super session albums, that features a blues legend with the backing of famous white musicians like Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman...

Legend has it that Howlin' Wolf was pretty clueless as to who these white kids were

The CD includes an outtake of the famous Killin' Floor where Wolf instructs an awestruck Clapton on how to play the song correctly

Kenny Rogers...I used to listen a long time back on tapes...somewhere down the line, hit a 'classic' 'rock' and turned 'progressive'

I loved his Lucille, Coward of the county, Islands in the stream, Ruby..don't take your love to town"...and other songs, as simple as you can get..

Had forgotten him, thanks for reminding

Allman Bros were good too..

Shahrukh, your are absolutely right.Outside of a greatest hits album, I've seen very little of the LRB.

Continuing on the topic of old bands.

Police yes and as a logical continuation Sting himself who has done quite a bit.

Peter Gabriel..that man after his initial "Sledge hammer" days has tried to be very different with music especially in "Passions" which is the soundtrack from mel gibsons movie on Jesus Christ.

Allannah Myles is another name..her song Black Velvet was excellent although could not rise much over it.

Foreigner ? Tears for Fears? Van halen and of course Deep Purple who were a tru out and out rock group.

One of my favourites is of course the colourful Freddie of Queen.

Anyone remember Eurythmics ? very very poppish but Anne Lennox had a very different voice.

AC/DC was one band i never ever tried.

They were rumoured to be gay ..perhaps that was the reason..would not have gone down well with the fairer sex.

Think this would be a good album for a late bloomer into this band ?

Are there no Deep Purple Fans ? Gillan ,Blackmore, Lord and pace did comedown to mumbai in 1995 ..and Me was there then.

Child in Time, When a blind man cries, Highway star, perfect strangers,, Black night, Women from Tokyo...and i could go on.

Due to it i even was a fan of their splinter groups ie Blackmores 'Rainbow" along with Dio and Whitesnake.

Unfortunately the recording quality of Rainbow is really bad. classics like "temple of the King", "man on the silver mountain" sound really compressed the tape on a sony compo sounded better

Tears for Fear - Songs from the Big Chair (got superhits like shout and everybody wants to rule the world)

They are not talked about much but they (read it pete townshend's brain) pioneered many ideas like the 'lifehouse project'(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifehouse_%28album%29)

'Whos next' is the album I like very much and the first thing which hits your eyes is the fantastic front cover on the album sleeve.

Apparently the band had discovered a concrete monolith on a Sheffield slag-heap, a potent symbol of alienation and the mundane uniformity of modern life. This was a wonderful example of real life surrealism, for which the band could find no other purpose than to piss upon!

Quadrophenia and Tommy are great albums too..

U said it Arj...those were the days my friend...

I would also recommend Gentle Giant and Camel to everybody...you just have to listen to these bands...they are phenomenal...

Gentle Giant's brand of rock is soaked in jazz influences and they experiment with really odd-timed syncopations and user very 'non-rock' instruments...

Camel's music is hard to classify but mostly symphonic...very innovative and soulful...

Try out these albums if you find them -
Gentle Giant - In a glass house, octopus, aquiring the taste
Camel - Mirage, Moonmadness, the snow goose

Hey Arj,
Here is a recco for you.I'm sure you will enjoy this album.

Cole's Corner by Richard Hawley

Richard Hawley was at one time in the mid nineties, in a group called The Pulp, they according to the critice, were the intelligent alternative to other popular Brit Bands of that time, like Oasis and Blur.

This album is however quite different. While Hawley's baritone on this lushly produced album is remicent of singers like Leonard Cohen...the music is for most parts also reminicent of the Great Roy Orbison.

Check out the video of Cole's Corner on UTube here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pR-MTZVppkA

...and the album is available locally
