1.The Visitors -ABBA ;a ditto copy of the first CD ever produced( 1981) on invention of the format.
On a comparison with a copy of the Visitors from the recent Box Set of ABBA produced from the Studio Master Tapes, the degradation of the sound quality becomes so apparent-the original is so much better, with no compression & the full dynamic range;absolutely no tampering by the recording engineer;you have to hear the two pressings side by side to fully comprehend the slide in quality.
2.Jab We Met-some v.nice numbers, esp the one by Ustad Rashid Khan.

Bigger Better Faster More (Album) by 4 Non Blondes !

My favorite track is What's Up and the lead vocals by Linda Terry are superb. I was actually looking for this song for last many years. It was only last night that I could find out the song name, the group and the ablum - so I bought it today. I ran my search on YouTube.com and with some difficulty I could find this song. So lesson is that if you have hear a song but don't know the title, album or singer/group, you can still search it on places like youtube

Band On The Run-Paul McCartney & The Wings.
Listening to it after, what,20 yrs, if not more?
What a great album this one is-timeless, to my mind.
Felt great to revisit all the tracks-one of the very few albums where every track is a classic.
Plz do give it a listen.

You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore - Volumes 1,2,3,5 & Grand Wazoo - Frank Zappa & Mothers of Invention
Citizen (Box Set) - Steely Dan
...and other Jazz and Classic Rock stuff (this seems to be the mainstay these days)

Part of a larger haul (series of hauls actually) from Planet M who were selling them for upto 70% off. Finally getting serious about Zappa. The live recordings are a bit raw but not too bad. Still fun to listen to. After getting the SD box set, realised that Becker & Fagen had worked on individual re-releases with far better quality but no regrets - this is a nice all-in-one-place deal although it is annoying how tracks from single albums spill over across discs.

i like the grand trilogy suite...but honestly...i've come across other guitarists who play with more soul...

Julian "Cannonball" Adderley.
What a pleasure to hear the (alto) saxophone played with such power and finesse, an instrument that many modern day players can make sound cheesy. "I'll Remember April" is a standout track.

Have not heard him play solo but he deserves recognition as a composer as Julian ("Cannonball") played many of his works, most famously "Work Song." But Cannonball is the master of the sax - "I'll Remember April" is like a steamroller in its power.

Speaking of saxophone what do you think of Jan Garbarek? I am listening to "In Praise of Dreams" and the Indian/Irish/M. Eastern/E. European influences make it rather enchanting and meditative. I would have liked to get "Rites" but I dread the trek to other side of town ("Planet M") to get it.

Me? Cry? Never! Yes, I completely agree with you and Manek. Music can reach you like no other medium. Can transform your mood in a snap. I was surprised by the poor reviews of "In Praise of Dreams" as I quite liked it. The combination of sax and viola is brilliant! Perfect counterpoint and sometimes even partners for each other. The album that disappointed me is Manu Katche's Playground. I have liked his work with Peter Gabriel, Sting, etc. but here...well...its what I would play in the background at work. Good recording though, like all ECM.

I am now definitely going to listen to more Jan Garbarek. I liked his collaboration with Ustad (Bade) Fateh Ali Khan but not the work with the choir (the sax has no place there!). There are some great concert performances by him on YouTube., esp with Keith Jarrett if I remember.
