Sharukh made me hear eva cassidy some time back and she does have a good voice.

Will now collect her music.

Seen this many times, we many times only appreciate artists in the wee hours of their lives or after they are gone. Sadly some other person makes more money on him/her than the artist during his/her lifetime.
Many who can't sing a verse to save their lives are rolling in dough. Really feel sad about the state of musical affairs nowadays.

I can think of a name right away but she seems to be very popular with many so I will desist...

The loss of Eva Cassidy on the other hand was tragic - she may have mostly covered others songs but she crafted them with such pure, undiluted emotion and energy that she made them her own. Her love for music shone through in every song and even the absence of financial success seemed to have little impact on her passion. This excerpt from an article about her says it all:

In the weeks before she died of a melanoma, a little-known Washington, DC, club singer made a last, valiant effort to record a song about brown leaves and grey skies on a winter's day.

"I picked her up from her parents' house," says Eva Cassidy's musician-producer boyfriend, Chris Biondo, "and I tried to lay her down on the couch at the studio and hook mikes over the top of her. She tried to do California Dreaming. And she couldn't. She got so sick.

"She was on a walker. She had lost her hair. She threw up every 10 minutes. I had the tape on and she tried to do it. And I looked at her and I said, 'I'm not going to get this one ..."'

Cassidy was just 33 when she died in relative obscurity in late 1996. Now fans have bought millions of copies of six albums of her songs, only two completed before her death.

That she persisted to the end is remarkable. She must have been discouraged by the level of uninterest in the music industry. Few then could have foreseen the clamour for her work in recent years.

"She never, ever in her life made more than $250 for a gig," says Biondo, interviewed in a Melbourne hotel room during a visit to promote the latest in a series of posthumous albums. "More often than not, she would make $60 to $80. So she wasn't somebody who I would say was even middle-class in her earnings."

Update: For those not familiar with her work, here is a video of her performance at Blues Alley -- Autumn Leaves

I like Jancinthia - Groove Note & on XRCD.
I have 3 or 4 of her albums.

Diana sure loooks great. I think she looks better than she can sing...........

Ms. Shankar too - looks oh, but plays average [sitar].
Ms. Jones looks better, but sings average.

Why should one feel bad to say what they feel.
Some one can love them, no problem. I don't !

I like Rebecca Pidgeon [close 2nd for female vocal referance]
Kari Bremnes is my current 'referance' for female vocal
Mary Black was my prefious referance.
Sousan Vega too is good - but not used for testing.
Tracy Chapman too is great - referance material.

I will have to think of a few more. But there are many.

I have !She is from Singapore.

I have this one CD by her.For the life of me,I just cannot remember what it's called at the meoment.

It opens with a French version of Autum Leaves.

I have not heard the CD for the longest while.

1. I use Fairstar Audio Converter. It will convert any audio format to any other.

Check the net, there should be some freeware too that does it.

APE files are by " Monkey Audio" check this site, maybe they have free ware ?

I think "APERIPPER" is freeware.

2. If you are using Nero to burn the CD, there are plugins ( just dll files ) that will enable Nero to convert APE to WAV while burning ( on the fly ).

However, I remain cautious of 'On The Fly' since it could cause glitches on the CD.

If you need help, let me know...

Both... actually, 3 things :

1. I hear them on my PC using Foobar.

2. Transfer onto my iPod

3. and Burn them on CD with the Cover Art printed out on Photo paper..

Note, if you have a single large audio file ( APE or FLAC Or WAV ) burn as an Image... Using The .CUE file, and NOT the Large audio file.

If you burn the Large Audio file, the entire CD will burn as a Single file and you will not be able to jump tracks while playing on a CD player...

Picked up this double CD album called 'The Classical Indian Collection' from a music store in Athens.

The album is a diverse sampling of collaborations and connections between Indian and Western Classical music.

The tracks cover a wide gamut ranging from symphonic classical fusion - Ravi Shankar with the LSO conducted by Andre Previn to early jazz collaborations - John Mayer + Indo Jazz Fusion Group ( not to be confused with the other JM of room full of squares fame) and then the more contemporary electronic hybrids - Badmarsh & Shree, Midival Punditz...

The other interesting thing about this album is that almost all the collaborations feature either the flute or the violin.

Excellent ! Grab a copy if you can mananage to lay your hands on one.

EAC does notrecognise many burners ... :-(

I guess there Must be an ape plugin or Nero.

However, I have stayed away from On-The-Fly conversions, as I suspect that they may create glitches... In fact a frind in the Netherlands experienced exactly that ( glitches ) it was solved when he used pre-converted files for burning...

Open the Cue file in a text editor such as notepad, and edit the 3rd or 4th line which refers to the main file as ***,ape to ***.wav.

Save and use.
