I may not be able to afford it now but it definitely shows that things are progressing at least from the dealer's end.
Nice...SNV. All the best.

BTW, is there any relation between Audio Analogue and dCS ?? The model names seems to be clashing...sorry if I am sounding naive .

Dear Amp_Nut,

I am very excited to be appointed distributor for dCS. Its the best front end there is.
I am in UK as of now. I have just placed the order for the products. They have a long waiting period, especially for the Scarlatti system.
I should have the Puccini cd player and the Paganini system - transport/dac/clock by mid April. The Scarlatti will take longer.

Dear All,

Highlight of the month :

The Absolute Sound - Digital Issue, July/August 2008, #183

dCS made the cover of the latest edition of TAS!

Scarlatti DAC/Transport/Clock and Puccini were reviewed in a 7 page review that was the main feature of the digital edition.

The reviewer, Jonathan Valin, loved Scarlatti and Puccini so much he wrote:

"Well there you have it : The best digital sources I've yet heard"

"The Scarlatti, for example, is, by all standard repeatable measures, one of the lowest-distortion, highest-accuracy players money can buy."

"I might as well say it outright : The Scarlatti and Puccini are the best Cd Players I've yet heard."

"I could also say that, the dCS Scarlatti and Puccini are dead-center neutral in tonal balance, without a trace of digital darkness, and airier on top than any other CD players i've ever heard."

"They make vocalists and instrumentalists on first-rate cd & sacds sound 'in-the-room-with-you realistic' more often, more consistently, and much more persuasively than any other cd/sacd players."

Very very few set ups can actually reproduce that bass. I have not heard it on many. If the ATC can do it, it is commendable.

Sad - but I will never be a member of that club.
The 'bass' plays in the next room - but not in my listening position. The 2 subs are of no use - just cannot give the spl to me.

It is so 'distinct' in AN's place & just so 'faint' in mine that it does not deserve a mention.

I envy you guys - 1st Octave Club - nice name - AN !!

Sir,
I did not understand what you ment;

None the less, in my case it is like salt in the food, too much comes in the way & too little keeps you wanting more.

The 'trick' is to make the sub play but disappear & trust me that is very very [very] again] difficult to do.
If I turn it up - sure the bass in the Grandma's track comes into audible range, however it overpowers all else & that cannot be the 'setting'
When I set it for all other kinds of music - sure the bass in that track is there - but it is loudest and most audible opposite to my Bathroom Door - opposite the fridge !! That is the delima.....

So, I am constantly compromising some where...

Thied that - had used the Holm.
Worked well - but the DAC's sq was not up to the mark, so had to let it go.
Any form of passive eq too does not help.
None of the EQ's are 'audiophile' grade.
Also experimented with DEQX - was not successful - have that for sale too.
This is a damn difficult task - I do not know how AN is able to manage it !! Hats off to him for his effort & success.....

Sir, you are Very kind but ofcourse my large speakers in a mall room are far from ideal, and the set up has its limitations. Fortunately for me, I have been able to achieve a sound that I find enjoyable and satisfying.

abhi.pani wrote:

I agree with you you, Abhi. I realised that a while ago, when I had the smaller Sonus Faber Extremas. Its VERY diffucult to integrate another manufacturer's sub. The system then lyalks in 2 different tongues. However, a sub from the SAME manufacturer is a different story, and there have been many such designs, probably inspired by the Wilson Watt - Puppys.

Separate subs also give the verslity to tone down the LF to better suit the room's LF boost. I have done that by placing a small external resistor in the LF section of my speaker, since my speakers provide separate terminals for the LF.

That said, I do feel that Bhagwans use of TWO subs, in his relatively small room, integrate BEAUTIFULLY well with his speaker, even though the brands of the speakers and subs are Completely different. In fact they do not sound like there is a sub at all, and THAT is the way it should be.

SPL is not the problem;
That is very very easy to sort.

The issue is on 2 fronts;

a]
Speed & Alignment

b]
Not needing too much - most of the time

Hi Manek,

From a reveiw of the Focal 27V2 subwoofer driver.

Grandma’s Hands (Livingston Taylor)

This track is approximately a little under 2 minutes long, with Livingston and his back-up vocals singing soulfully all throughout. It’s purely a vocal track, with its only instrument being the finger snaps heard all throughout the track. This is mainly a test for midrange purity, but it can be used to test low-frequency extensions as well.

In most good systems, faint but heavy foot stomps can be heard all throughout the track, and the 27V2 definitely shined on this track. The foot stomps can be heard very clearly, and once Livingston pauses to catch his breath, the foot stomps can be heard much more clearly. I was impressed on this, with the sub exhibiting great bass reproduction.

Foot stomp ?

Would a foot stomp be lower than 50hz? Unless its done on a raised wooden floor with a large avity under it.

A foot stomp is possible provided mikes were placed close to floor.

Ampnut, is it a foot stomp that you hear ?

It definitely sounded like foot stomps rather than any instrument and Manek, your guess could very well be right as the sound was very close to foot hitting on wooden floor and the mike placed at a location where it can pick the deep lower harmonics of the sound.
