Dear All,
Greetings!

It is with immense pleasure that I announce the arrival of Sonus Faber in India. We have been appointed as their exclusive distributor for India.

A highly renowned company from Italy is one of the leading brands in the loudspeaker market. The range of Sonus Faber has won several accolades and awards over the years globally.

From the Toy speaker to the Stradivari, all products are made in Italy.
Divergent to many high end brands, now manufactured in China, Sonus Faber products are still hand made in Italy.

Their range of Loudspeakers consists of four series –
TOY, LIUTO, CREMONA & HOMAGE SERIES.

For further information, kindly log on to - www.sonusfaber.com or email us on sonusfaber@soundnvisionhifi.com

Dear Amp_Nut & Abhi_Pani,

I believe in proper representation of a brand. A distributor has do justice to the brand he represents.

Since we are on it, I carry more than one pair in the homage and Cremona series and ofcourse more than adequate stock of Toy & Liuto series.

The same is also applicable to the other brands I represent - Cyrus, Chord & dCS. I carry the entire range with me at all times.
No small feat, to invest in dCS - Scarlatti/Paganini - transport/dac/clock and the Puccini cd player.
I do not know of any distributor in India who stocks high end cd players costing upto 40 lacs (Scarlatti).

Now its the turn of the dealers who need to graduate to stocking high end products.

Congrats SNV..I somehow missed out on listening to the Sonus Fabers in RMAF last year..perhaps if I make it this year I will make it a point to listen to them.

The DCS really is an excellent source and I had the pleasure of listening to it..had me enraptured for a good 45 mins.

Truly admirable that you are making such high end stuff available for demo in India. Moar power to you sir.

Thank you Amp_Nut, Square_wave & Abhi.pani. Thank you.

Saachi, dCS is pretty much the best digital front end there is. No doubt there are expensive, but certainly the finest.

Coming back to Sonus Faber, I have priced the entire range at par with US retail (barring 2 or 3 models) unlike most other rival brands that are priced at 50% over US retail.

Thank you all for your kind wishes.

Snv,

A step in the right direction I would say on the sf pricing front and hats off to you.

Its obvious that most of us don't earn in dollars or dollar equivalents hence US retail prices are relatively on the higher side too generally speaking and consumers are made to pay a heavy price for foriegn goods.

Snv, how about india prices ? What I mean is bring them below the US retail by a significant amount? Now that would be some achievement ! You would be the talk of the audiophile circles in india atleast :-) I am convinced its possible and still have a healthy business model :-)

Thank you Krish.

Dear Manek,

Dollar equivalent price is only an indication of how competitively Sonus Faber is priced v/s B&W, Dynaudio, Kef, JM Lab, etc.

Believe it or not - Anything below the US retail, its not a viable business model.

I do not follow unethical methods of under invoicing, while importing, unlike a few in the industry. As much as I would want to, Im afraid I cant better the prices anymore.

The high end market in India is still in its infancy. The audiophile circle in India is only a handful. Our sales are extremely limited when compared the US & Europe markets. A dealer in US & Europe does far more business than an Indian distributor.

It is possible to reduce prices further only when we are able to achieve mass sales. I look forward to that day.

Thanks for your wishes.

Regards
SNV

Agree...that prices can be lowered if there are more sales but what is being done to create the apetite for the products ? Good audio is an aquired taste but I am sure we can get more of us to be converted only if there were events which exposed this wonderfull hobby of ours.
One trade show a year in a noisy exhibition ground aint going to cut it.

Why don't we on this forum and other join hands(manufacturers, dealers, distributors, consumers) to promote our passion for good music on good audio systems ?

Seriously guys, it should do everybody some good. I know for a fact that once a person is hooked, there is no turning back.....therein lies the potential........of larger sales and better prices ?

Dear Manek,

Better prices. Sonus Faber is very competitively priced. Now theres a beginning.

I agree completely. We most definitely need better expos in India. It must be done right. A grand venue - preferably in a 5 star hotel with demo rooms. Most importantly participation of the entire industry.

As I have stated on this Forum also, I have always planed of doing such a show, ( since I do a Cable TV Trade show annually in Mumbai ) but :

1. 5 Star Hotels are reluctant (read REFUSE) to give out their rooms for a show.

2. The amount that Exhibitors are willing to pay for their stall is little more than the cost of a room at the Hotel ( Its like wanting to eat a meal at a good restaurant, at the cost of the Ingredients ! )

3. I even visited the Hong Kong HiFi Show to see how they put up stalls at the HK Exhibition and Convention centre. The stalls, built like standard Exhibition booths were below par, Hot, and smelt bad due to the Fibre absorbant panelling that some had use.

The area in the Main Hall was busy and noisy ( like a fish Market ! ) Hardly like a Hi Fi Show.

The Taiwan Show was SUPERB, held at a 5 Star Hotel....

As a show organiser, I find Point 2 more dis-heartining than Point 1.

Would happily Tackle Hotels, if Exhibitors were will to pay realistic rates.

My plan is to do a show with clearances for Duty Free Import of the Exhibits by the Organiser's freight forwarder (his charge will be extra but reasonable)

Ofcourse they would have to be re-exported after the show, by the freight Forwarder.

If the Exhibits are sold, then Customs duty paid on the Exhibits not re-exported.

Sounds Sweet ??

I think each Demo Room ( Standard Hotel Room ) would be priced approx Rs 75K for 3 days.

Ofcourse Large Rooms would be more.

Commercial Member, would you be interested ?

Dear Amp_Nutji,

We have had a long conversation on the very same topic earlier.

Consider me in for such a show. I sincerely wish you all the best in organising a show of this scale. I hope the entire industry participates.

I am willing to pay 75k for 3 days.

WOW !

That is Great & Quick Support.

Do note that the Rs 75 estimate is for a demo room. A 9 sq meter Exhibition booth would be less, but not facilitate auditioning products, since it would be in a general area.

Any Other thoughts and feedback ?

Snv,

That's a very good start....and so is pricing the sf competitively.

Audio show is one thing, but spreading the wonders of the aquired taste to the public should be part of the show. Like a workshop for people to know the finer points of what difference a good system makes to their listening. A show will only spread awareness of the products at large but we need to teach other what one gains with such products, make others taste it the right way. Thus education to the general public becomes important. That can be done year round and not only at shows. Workshops with small gatherings(even 15-20) by the industry members and audiophiles together would be a start. Basic charges to cover basic costs could be levied.....one could do it in conjuction with the media mags as well.

The future lies in new converts and not just us old foggies upgrading once in an eon.

Grow the market, create the apetite. Some will bite and many won't but that's life, isn't it ?

WOldn't forming audio clubs in member cities be better than focussing all the attention on a 3 day annual event.

I think that event should be supported by having regional audio clubs that are open and meet every month or every other month or something to that effect. It would add a personal touch not to mention give the 'noobs' a more controlled entry into our world of music listening rather than dumping them full of information in addition to auditioning audio equipment all in 3 days time.

Any one here willing to spear head local clubs and take it forward ?.

Maybe one club each in Bangalore, New Delhi and Mumbai ?

To start the Club and its activity, I suggest the person define:

1. The Club's Vision Statement.

I know many will feel that its a waste of time, but believe me it isint. It will show the way for identifying Club activities, Canvasing members, etc. It could read someting like this ( Its only a 1st draft):

"To Create an awareness and promote Audiophile culture In Bangalore"

2. List Down The Club's proposed activities atleast for the 1st year.

3. Suggest dates and venues for atleast the 1st meeting.

4. Identify like minded persons to join the club as 'Founding Members" and seek their support to get in casual visitors and audiophile to attend the meetings.

5. Ensure that each meeting promotes the Mission statement, and see how the meeting content can be adapted to get widespread attendance.

6. Involve Commercial members and Audiophile goods retailers for club activities ( eg a meeting at a retailer's premise, where he explains the approach of a product range, and provides a demo.

7. Inform local audiophile magazines ( AV Max, What Hi Fi etc ) to list the Club's activities ( For free ofcourse ) also involve the magazines, by offering their (discounted ? ) subscriptions..

***************

In Mumbai, I know a group of audiophiles who meet, but its not a club, there is no agenda to bring in new listners every meeting or anything like that. ....

What say, Manek ? You can take on this for Mumbai ?

I will be happy to support this activity in any way, but just dont have the time to Spear-head it...

I think this is a 'good' idea..club etc.
However, there are certain things that I have observed & would like to pen down - with the permission of the esteemed members.....

How many audiophiles in Mumbai have taken out time to visit all / few of the audio demo rooms in Mumbai
[I will only talk about Mumbai - since I am from here] ?

How many audiophiles in Mumbai have taken out time to visit all / few of the other audiophile members rooms in Mumbai ?

How many audiophiles in Mumbai have taken out time to visit all / few of the audio rooms of fellow forum members in Mumbai ?

I have many such questions; maybe I am a 'sceptic' but, I feel that most 'audio' buffs may or may not be open to 'sharing' their 'hobby' with other like minded persons.

Kindly take my observations in the 'right' light !!

p.s. Have all visited the Cadence Demo Room in Mumbai / Dynaudio Demo Room in Mumbai / A 2 V / JBl / Wharfdale / Mirage etc. etc.

Good Points, bhagwan69, and I must admit that I have not visited every HiFi show room in Mumbai city.

However, IMHO, the points that you have highlighted are indicators of Personal enthusiasm & perseverance, for the hobby. ( I know that you have done ALL the above and Much More. I admire that )

A Hi Fi Club activity, needs to "Spead The Word" and PROMOTE the Hobby. This should be a KEY goal.

That is why I mentioned a Mission Statement, and suggested a draft to read :

"To Create an awareness and promote Audiophile culture In Bangalore"

I know of a group of Mumbai Audiophiles that meet, but these meetings do not make an effort to get in Atleast 1 new person to every meeting. Infact the goal for such a club meeting should be that every member should bring along a potential Hi Fi Enthusiast for a Club meeting, and the meeting should have a clear and predefined agenda. THAT would be the beginning of a Club who's mission statement is to promote the hobby.

Just my 2 cents...

Other thoughts, anyone ??
