Hello out there! Ain't this a little bit odd, that all people do write in english here but a few germans don't? I allways thought only the brits, americans or the french were so proud in their language that they won't speak any other. But the germans? I'm confused ![]() ![]() [Beitrag von onion am 03. Hi onion, the origin of this forum is german. That might the reason that some people write in German! I think that's normal and has nothing to to with proudness.... Möllie |

Hi there... until the most recent update of this forum, the english section was not even visible on the first page unless you specified this in your member-preferences. Lets see if the situation get's better, now that the two have been united. At least that's what I think that happened with the last update. Hence I saw the topic of this thread as I accidently clicked into the english version of the offtopic section. Nevertheless: trust me I ain't not too proud to write in english. On the contrary: I complimented a native english speaker that he made the effort to compose a german language question in the 'german-speakting' (i prefer that term rather than just saying 'german-' part of the forum) And it's obvious that if I compliment to such an action, I want to support such a behaviour on both sides. Basically I am convinced that the different experiances that probaly all of you have made while shopping/planning their hifi-system might very well contribute to the richness of complete forum. By the way: If you are a pro with the german language redaing, I suggest to take a look in the (until now) german-speaking section of the Voodoo-thread! It's just too funny to read people jumping in each others faces just because of the quality of cables etc. But I guess I should check the english-speaking voodoo-section next. Maybe the poster's in there are as crazy as the german-writing ones. And that would be the first common and uniting bond between the two parts of the forum! ![]() Cheers! QF Chris |

Hey 2_of_7! I don't speak german but I once took a look on some voodoo threads using an automatic translator. Results weren't that good (one should invent a good auto-translator!). I hope that some of the english-speaking members of hifi-forum.de will come by to help if noone of the non-german-speaking members can answer a question. As far as I know the forums have been united since creation but something went wrong at the last update so everyones settings were set to display both forums. ![]() ![]() |

As far as i know this forum was originally founded as a German one. And to be frank: until two weeks a go i did not even know that there is an english corner. Be sure that the "old" german members were surprised to find english threads as well. regards, Uwe |

I work in the public sector in Luxembourg and meet many Germans in european and international meetings. Many of them who speak a few foreign languages try to speak French to me although they know that German is also an official language of my country. I prefer to speak with a German in German language of course, it's so much simpler ![]() Germans who work for the European Commission use English when they speak in meetings, even when German is one of the languages of the meeting. They try to be as international as possible. So my experience is that Germans are generally not proud of their language and always try to avoid it when speaking in an international context. Some german diplomats try so hard to avoid to appear as "ugly Germans" it becomes ridiculous. That's a general post-war problem. Germany is one of the most powerful countries in the world in many areas, yet doesn't want to appear like that. With the French it's completely different. [Beitrag von Miles am 07. Onion... it's not pride that makes the English, US-American or French avoid speaking other languages - it's the simple fact that they never learn any other language ![]() Tino |

hey... there is really a english cornor... sounds like a chance... i can make jokes about voodoo and can improve my english at the same time here...
yeah, some time ago it was like that. a wonderfull time... but now we`ve got a new german wave... a lots of songs are coming out in german, the politicans are talking about "german music" and stuff like that. i think you english guys know the problems with that. if a dumb german like me hears the beats of 50 cent or the voice of dido... great. but your english is much better than my own. yove got to understand everything of the songs. must be terrible. now we`ve got the same problem. a lot of german clones off that stuff is played in the radio all the time. and i can understand everything. ![]() by the way... the most songs are in english... and you guys understand everything perfect. how can you stand that? es there realy a chance to enjoy music? PS: if anyone wants to make jokes about my funny grammar... please use words i understand. ![]() |

Hello out there (taking the risk that this is totally OTP) Quote """So my experience is that Germans are generally not proud of their language and always try to avoid it when speaking in an international context.""" What makes you think that we do that - maybe it´s a sign that we are friendly comunicative people and english IS THE world language - no way around. Anyhow you can spot us by ze mile because of the funny accent most of us have ![]() My wife and me speak several languages fairly well and when we are alone we always use what comes in handy - like we never would use the word Knoblauch in a million years - we always call it garlic. Another aspect is the way you learn things - i learned sailing in the caribien so all the special words i know in english. So dont ask me what a Jenny (Genoa) is in german ![]() Sometimes english is just the better choice. greetings wolf living in france right now [Beitrag von wolfman2 am 30.
