How would someone feel of a system on which he/she had just spent..say 4 lakhs..would'nt it be the same

It would very difficult to argue, the ears are going to be more "open" even in this case.

Good point, Siva.

I have been down BOTH those roads ... DIY and expensive purchases.

I can honestly say, I have admitted (atleast to myself !) that the purchase has fallen short of my expectations.

A similar admission ( even to myself) was not forthcomming, as I would build a design that would, (IMHO) address all the technical design issues, and I would have built it to perfection. A good example of that was the Elektor "Crescendo", 200 Watt MOSFET Power Amp... built to 'perfection.'

I now use Gamut MOSFET Monoblocks.

P.S: BTW I STILL cant figure out what could be done better - either in design or build - for the "Crescendo" to be the best sounding amplifier (except maybe low overall Feedback .. )

P.P.S: Any DIYers here who want to start a separate thread on Design / implementation ?

Just a reminder to DIYers ...

The BEST connector is NO Connector !

Try directly soldering the wires, atleast to the inside of the female power receptacle of yr audio equipment. You will have to ofcourse get the lid off... but when removed, there will be no tell tale signs or depreciation in the equipment price...

Savyasaachi, with all the stuff U assemble, do give it a try and see if yr system can resolve the difference.

Well sir, the lid on my main amp is almost permanently "taken off" . Mainly cause I can roll tubes.
I will give the direct wiring a shot, and quite honestly am trying to think of a way to make it permanent without making the back of the amp look hackish.
It is probably going to have the Finolex cable directly soldered to it. And I might do the same for my secondary amplifier as well.
Finding a way to ensure strain relief is the challenge especially since i have the cutouts for the IEC inlets already.

Just a thought.... Install ( since you have made the cut out) but dont use the IEC female sockets.

Drill a separate hole, for the permanent Mains plug, and install appropriate strain relief ?

^^ lol

Well did a quick comparision between the JOchen and the DIY finolex cables.

I switched between my EHHA power amp and also on my DAC and the consensus is that the Jochen power cords have a touch more refinement over the Finolex cables.

The Finolex seems to muddle it up in the high frequencies while adding a touch more body to the midrange.
Am going to stick to the Jochen cords for now on my EHHA and DAC. Kudos to Jochen for making such nice affordable cables available in the Indian market.

Hi Saachi,
nice to read that you were finally able to mount the US-plugs on to the powercord and that you like the cord that I'm selling as an entry level power cord.
It's always my aim to bring very good stuff to India and make it available at affordable prices. Or in other words I am trying to make things (not only cables) available at a lower price than the usual sales price. Which is possible because I have my contacts to the makers of the products. And when it's sometimes not possible to make it available for less than the usual sales, like it is the case with BMC because they have a another sales srategy (they sell directly to the user - so no distributer's and retailer's margin is involved) then you can be rest assured that I select products only which are innovative (no new bottles with old wine) and give you a very high value and extremely good performance for the money you pay.

BTW a third power cord is already waiting for you

Regards,
Jochen

Nice observation Sachi.
Yes, Jochen's power cords do have little more information on the upper highs and a touch cleaner bass lines as well.

Have any of you tried out Jochen next level of power cords ? I remember Jochen mentioning about this in a recent call.

Hi Square,

in my system I got a much tighter bass, more details in the mids resulting in better and more spaced out soundstage.
At the moment my demo cord is with KB. He feels in his system the cord makes the bass a bit thin. Remember my system has a mightier bass than KB's. That's possibly why I observe the bass to be tighter than thinner. Abhi had also tried it but hasn't really commented about it. If you want to try it out just contact me. Here is the link to the manufactuere's website http://www.einsteinaudio.de/english/products/PowerCord_eng.html
The cord that we are talking about is "The Shield".

Jochen

There is still a 5 ft. long cable (1.5 sqmm) of the same type that you got from me.
If you want to have it just let me know.

Jochen
