Hi !

I seem to feel that there are a few members on this forum that happen to be Single Malt drinkers & 'appreciators'
I have started this thread for their benefit.

oh thanks, for starting the new thread.

So here it is the Laphroaig my favorite so far. Still a virtual novice at SM tasting. The whole world is still there to be tried

The likes - peaty / woody / smoky flavor for laphroaig aah completely hits the spot.

Another preference is that whisky, specifically SM is best had neat without ice / water. However since most places in India is hot, it is better with ice.
Love to hear from my fellow single malters.

And Bhagwan ji, me is in Bangalore. Unfortunately I dont have / rather tried any of the SMs you liked. More the glenfiddich / glenlevit types.

My favourite Whisky is the ten years old Ardbeg. It is an Islay single malt. The flavour is coined by smoke, a bit salt, and turf.

Without ice!

Cheers,

Sir, if you have not tried, how do you know that there is no other SM you would like ?
Actually I retract that statement; Cause, if you like Laphroaig, then there is very little else that you will like. Most SM's are diagonally opposite to the 'L' in taste & smell !! IMHO,,,,,,

My personal favourites are the Lagavulin Distiller\'s Edition and Ardbeg 15.
Fireplace, Single Malt, Music = Bliss!

I have all of the above except the 'Cardhu' (I think). Suggest you make a trip soon before I drink them up!

Agree, which is why I am still learning the ropes. However of the SMs i have done, Laph is my favorite. BTW I am open to the diametrically opposite tastes - just that I try and stay away from the sweeter (relative) / fruitty (relative) ones as much as possible. Having said that, I like wine fruitty and sweet.

Highland Park - 15 yrs a superb malt from the Orkney Islands
Bruchladdie,Talisker - Islay malt
The Macallan from the Speyside
Auchantoshan from the lowlands
Oban from the highlands

...and the usual suspects - Cardhu,Laphroig ( tincture iodine, if one were to be uncharitable )

These are what I have and like.

Another superb SM that I have tried, not very popular is Mortlach.

Cheers,

Hmmm... SUPERB !

Even the regular Highland Park is VERY nice, but apparently little known...

Have always wanted to try Bruchladdie

Which airport is it available.

ditto for Auchantoshan ?

after hearing all this i thought i need to try ot an SM (I am a liqueur man )..during this trip I actually tried Laphroaig 10 at one of the airline Lounges in Singapore...man it does have a strong aroma (I am being very very charitable here) that was with Ice (i prefer my drinks neat) and i had to have a Countreu neat to get rid of the aftertaste...it does have a strong flavour as well.

now the Glenfiddich 18 i had later was really something else, rather smooth and nice..Chivas 18 ( ? )is not too bad too..

so what does that say about my taste ? am i liking the audio equivalent of the Sonys to the Linns ?

The 'L' is a very very 'peaty' SM.
I never liked it.

Basically, all the SM's have a 'taste' & 'smell' & 'colour'
One has to develop ones own preferances.

I may like a Talisker / Glen Ord / Ben Nevis & some one else may hate them.
This is just like audio - every person has his own likes and dislikes.

Taste & drink & keep experimenting...
All the Best !!!

Laphroig is a bit like Marmite.

You either love it or hate it. No in betweens.

Hey, just chanced upon this post! Didn't know there were so many SM fans here. My fav has been Cardhu (12 y.o.) so far. Haha... I fell in love with the bottle first and then for the stuff inside it! Lovely stuff!!

Talisker 10 y.o. is also nice... though not as smoothe as the above. Have had an opportunity to taste the 25 y.o. version too! Don't quite remember the taste though!

Glenlevit is more like a beginner's guide to the world of SM. Always a pleasure.

Purists might kill me here, but I've desperately been searching for a Glenmorangie Port wood finish. Been looking high and low but haven't got my hands on it yet!! Had it some time back and loved the sweetish finish it had.

FWIW, Amp_nut, Auchantoshan is available at Colombo airport - if you're ever going down there!!

Come home - before Sunday;
We can have it or any of the other from the same series [5] & listen to some music.
My sey up and the flat is to break on Monday & will be without SM & Music for 6 months... Sad I know.
