We are fortunate to have with us, several commercial members.

Most of these are passionate audiophiles, and believe in the products that they sell.

Due to these members, we - audiophiles in India, benifit from a wider choice of equipment that can be audiotioned ( in most cases ) prior to buying.

However, IMHO, the commerial Indian members on this forum seem rather inhibitted ... except Prithvi and to some extent - SNV.

My plea to the commercial memebers is to please inform us about the products that you carry, and post regularly, about the new products and brands that you add, from time to time.

Just because there are positive repercussions for the commercial members, does not mean that forum members will not appreciate the info...

I believe that if the posts are Informative, and highlight special features / design approaches etc, they would not be seen as blatant advertisments / plugs, and infact would be appreciated & Welcome.

I for one would welcome such, informative posts.

Manek, I wonder if this is OK ?

What say others ? ?

To add a bit to what Amp Nut wrote, I am of the opinion that commercial members should take the initiative & call fellow forum members for demo / auditions and also explain and talk about room acoustics & speaker set up & other such things.

Basically, I feel that a lot of forum members suffer from lack of 'real auditioning' most are great writers and need to be exposed to a lot of mid fi and some hi fi gear. That way the opinions that they may express are based on their own listening experiances and not on some magazine or internet based hi fi articles.

Commercial Members should make the effort to give more and more demo's. That is the best way to educate forum members and hopefully translate into sales !!

Demos are the thing!
Unless you can hear it for yourself, you can't truly believe it-some one elses' words vs your own experience.
If demo rooms are difficult, pehaps Commercial Members could fix up with customers who have the eqpt & are agreeable to a group of audiophile dropping in for a listen-should'nt be too difficult, IMO, since many owners would love to hear words of appreciation as to what a nice setup they possess.

Can cut Both ways... Negative comments too are possible, no ?

Anyways, atleast a post on the forum will keep others informed about what is available in India, or in our local city...

Be a little street smart & tactful!
Leave the reality for the posting on the Forum!
Don't we do this every day in real life viz reserve our comments?
Ampy, I take it that you're not a cricket fan?

Amp Nut....its really OK if the members discuss products rather than openly advertise for them.

It should not reach the levels of blatant advertising which can very easy happen. Commercial members can definately refer to their products on the threads and conversations and discuss their finer points and design attributes but dedicated threads created by the commercial members for the equipment thay sell ? That's not on.

Manek.

Kharma Ex Mini Reference - Yes that is the new speaker I have put as my avatar.

I have auditioned this speaker 2 years back with Electronics from Goldmund. I loved it, however some audio friends of mine that were with me did not care for it. This is still a point of dispute between me and some other audiophile friends of mine. I like Kharma. I just cannot justify their price.

Which Marten were you referring to ? Coltrane or Alto Coltrane ? Does not look like those [The ones thiat Leif Designs].

But, the Kharma's have a F & F [fit & finish] to die for. One of the best in the world. Attention to detail and QC is out of this world.

Have you heard any of the Kharma's ? WHat do you think of them ?

No sir, still not that fortunate. Yet to hear the Kharmas.

I thought the Coltrane from Marten looks a little similar to the Kharmas.

Well I am not so sure about that;

All Kharma's [except the Mini] have woofers from Eton [N & K composite] & the Midrange is from T & P & the Tweeters are 25mm diamonds [Neo Magnet] - custom made for Kharma.
All Marten Design's have Woofers from T & P, Midrange from T & P, Tweeter is 19mm diamonds [Farrite Magnet].
The enclosure is Carbon Fibre tub with 2" thick real wood -front baffle - like Cadence Arca.

Both sound very very different.
The Kharma - mini - is very very fast.
The Marten has a great mid band [one of the best I have ecer heard].

You should try and listen to both !!! Good Speakers.

Maybe we should have a separate thread for bhagwan and his avatars?

This would be so helpful :)Taking my example - I have a decent setup, but am unable to utilise it properly as I am quite clueless about room acoustics, speaker setup, and 'other such things'.

I have auditioned the WB Discovery, but never liked it.
Was very very keen on the Bishop [old] & the Chimera. Saw it many a times, but it was never on demo. Hence have not auditioned it. Therefore cannot comment on it.
Maybe, you shall bring it in and I may get that golden chance to audition it !!!! Fingers are x-ed.

What I would give to be in your place;
You do not know what you are missing. That is perfect. If you think you have a 'descent set up' and do not know anything about 'set up' & 'room acoustics' and you are enjoying your music, then you are in a state of 'nirvana'.

I have been searching for that state for the past 9 years & and am no way close to it. You are so lucky !!! No Jokes, I am very very serious.

This is a very very finicky cable. I still have it and used to do well with my earlier system. but was noticeably bad with another system during a recent audition. Bharathana was also present then.

Agree, finicky is the right word. It seemed like the cables very moody!

Agree with Manek - I also would not like the commercial members to advertise their products on this audio forum.

The level of Prithvi's advertising is just about tolerable - his advertising usually says that he has added XYZ products to his portfolio & that people are welcome to stop by & listen.
What I would prefer Prithvi to do is to let everybody know that he had added new products to his portfolio & provide a link to his Absolute Phase website so that all who are interested can go there & spend as much time as they want surfing.
Get the advertising out of this forum! Let's talk audio between commercial & non-commercial members & what makes it better &/or worse.

IMO all the commercial members should have websites stating which products they carry (the Internet has become a defacto for this these days) so all forum members who are interested in knowing what products which dealer/distributor/retail outlet carries they should periodically surf their websites. That should give you all the info you need. if no website, call the dealer once a month & get the info.

Informing the forum members that an open-house audition or demo is coming up is a good thing & I think that we have the sub-forum "Other Hi-fi" for these sort of things.

IMO there already exits sufficient ways to dissemminate info about new & existing products that the commercial members do not need to advertise on audio forums! Once the advertising starts, this audio forum will become a POS. Trust me! I've seen this before. Every audio forum worth its salt (AA, Audiogon, audiocircle, ASOG, MLUG, etc) strictly police the no advertising policy & it's not by mere coincidence that they do!!
