Why Polk? I give lot of attention to details in sound reproduction and not looking at some system which would sound good with loud abss and mid range. How would you rate the Polk with other systems like a Klipsch, Jamo, Definitive etc...

Polk is a better buy at the price level which other brands sell and since you are looking for a HT I have auditioned Denon with Polk, so you have the HT punch with Polk where if you have to buy klipsch you have to spend more of course they are anyday better, but here you have best of both worlds.

i suggest u give a listen to the deftech procinema series. excellent VFM. if u can audition them at ur place, donot pass up on the oportunity.

Any idea who sells deftech in bangalore and how are the prices compared to KEf and jamo and how do they perform when compared to these.

Is Denon 1705 sufficient for a medium sized room and for the above config I had mentioned earlier?

What would a medium sized room be in actual dimensions ?

For HT it would be nice if the denon could be paired with speakers with 90 db+ sensitivity and an easy 8 ohm load.

If at all the speakers in question are a 4 ohm load and less sensitive, then compensate with an amp with higher power rating.

When you audition the amp with speakers try and drive the speakers hard to see if the protection circuit cuts in, if so at what level so you get an idea of how much headroom you would have.

i listened to the kef(entry mid and reference). i felt that the Kef lacked the bass response when compared to my diamonds(even the coda90). but the highs were very good while they were almost evenly matched in the mids with the Kef just barely ahead. the diamonds are definitely better than teh cresta series. actually the cresta HT package will cost around 75k including the sub(u can probably bargain it down to 70k). u will get a wharfedale package for the same price(diamond8) but u will need a beefy amp to run them as they are all pretty low on sensitivity.
coming to the deftech.
i have heard the deftech procinema 80 package at my friend's place(he has now sold it and moved to the US). it was simply superb for the price. excellent sound for both stereo and Ht. in ht they can give almost any hometheater in box speaker packages(in that price range) a run for the money.i think for 42k u get the Procinema 100 series(including the sub).
there is a person who deals in Def tech in Bangalore. i will have to search around for his contact number. i'll post it here when i get it. but he is running the show out of his house so i don't think u'll get an oppotunity to audition them(he gets them only on order).

BTW i felt the KEF sub (1000.2) to be very underpowered.

This is the quotation that i got form the Jamo dealer. I will be taking the E6 sub 200 watts rms and I do not know how much that works out.

I feel this price tag is too steep.. wat do you guys think?

you can alternatively try Maratz pm 4400 at 34k....nice performance.I feel you finalise on the receiver first and the speakers later........

Then decide on your budget and look for the best possible deal. If you feel Jamo is too expensive to pair up with denon then you can alternatively look for wharfedale, KEF's are almost priced +/- jamo combo you mentioned .give em a good look.

What would be your budget Bro ? What are your preferences ? Looking at the previous posts it seems that you are looking for a 5.1 package with a Tower speaker for the fronts...How much are you willing to spend for the 5.1 speakers?

At 80k what straight away comes to my mind is Jamo. But then you also have the Diamond 9 package which will certainly save you some money (it is around 65k with the diamond 9.5 towers).
I dont know about your taste but the JBL Northridge series is also a stuff to audition (They sounded somewhat more aggressive to me), but it may sound ok to you.
Then there is Definitive Technology which have been praised by some people in our forum itself. Benks knows about them better but I can tell you that it would fit your budget well.
You can also try Acoustics Energy, they too have got good reviews and fall into your budget well.
Kef may not be feasible as their Cresta series is not that great and the Q series is very expensive.
One more Brand can be Sonodyne Sonus series but that will be in below 60k range.


All these Brands I have mentioned will fit your budget considering a pair of decent towers + 2 rears (preferably dipoles or bookshelves) + Matching Center + a decent sub.

Sub is one thing which you can easily Mix-Match according to your taste. Happy Hunting.....
