I just got this and want to hook my HTPC up to it via S/PDIF connection but don't know where to plug the cable in. Does anyone know which connector I use on the 701 to connect an S/PDIF cable?

Sorry I'm bit confused.
Whats a HTPC?
Is youre SPDIF cable optical?

I guess I shouldn't make assumptions. So here you go and thanks for responding. HTPC = Home Theater PC, TIVO like setup. Anyway I don't have a cable yet, didn't know what to buy. I am hooking my PC up to my Onkyo. I have a Sound Blaster Audigy with S/PDIF out option. I can't find a specific connection for S/PDIF for the Onkyo and didn't want to just start plugging things in. I hope this helps, if not let me know and I will try to explain more clearly what I mean.

i must ask you the same question as david: is your spdif optical or not?

I don't think so but not sure, it's the spdif on the sound blaster audigy 1 card. I am trying to figure it out from their website. If anyone here knows that would be helpfull. As you can probably tell, I don't know much when it comes to stereo cables and connectors.

Looks like from Sound Blasters site that the spdif connection can be either digital or analog. Can't find out if it's optical. Any clues as to how I would find that out?

This is what the specs are on my onkyo, I hope this helps.

Inputs

Audio and AV Inputs 2/5

HDTV-Ready Component Video Input/Output 2/1

Front-Panel Video Input (with S-Video)

S-Video Compatible Jacks Input/Output 5/2

Digital Inputs 3 Optical(1 Front Panel), 1 Coaxial

Digital Output 1 Optical/1 Coaxial

connect the digital coaxial in on your onkyo with the digital out of your sound blaster.
