Hi Guys, I am looking out for your expert opinions on this. I am plannig to buy a pair of floor standing speakers for my stereo amp. Can you guys suggest me some thing which can be bought in the range of 10-12K and sounds well with the stereo amp and can be used with a AVR also (later when I upgrade from my stereo amp to AVR) ? Am currently highly confused and lost. Please help me in deciding. Regards Hemant Jain |

Not seen a floor stander worth its salt for 10k-12k. If i found one I would buy it There is a 2 way sonodyne sonus 1601 for about 12k. But I was not satisfied. Space has a floorstander for 14k, again not completely satisfied. In fact I liked their bookshelf which is abt 9.5k better. Your best bet would be to look at bookshelf speakers. Wharfedale diamonds 8.1 and 8.2 are pretty decent and in the price range. |

hi hemant if you're in bombay go to designer audio at tardeo and check out the diamond 9.1s 13 k and perform beyond the price. though you'll have to spend more on stands... the only speakers i can think of in that range |

Floorstanders in this range are really bad. You might feel you are getting lot of bass but the truth that you are getting boomy, bloated bass. This is due to bad drivers, crossover implementation and boomy-badly constructed cabinets. On top of this, undisiplined bass can badly affect the mids and highs. At this price range, your best solution is to go for decent quality bookshelf speakers like Diamond 9.1 or 8.1 or even some mission b/k speakers. You could push your budget a bit and go for the diamond 8.3's or 8.2's. Rmember that you need to factor in the price of stands also. They cost atleast 1.5k. |

Hi Guys, Thanks for your prompt response. From all the responses I believe that I would not be able to get decent floorstanders for my budget. Is there any possibility of getting some decent Indian brand floor stander at my budget (10-12K) ? I want to go for the floor stander as I have been made to understand they provide much better sound then any other speakers, especially the bass. Any ideas on the decent book shelves in the price range of 10-12K ? Please note that my main concern is that what ever speakers I buy, I should be able to use them with the AVR which i plan to buy some time later down the line. Regards Hemant Jain |

Hemant, You can consider wharfedale diamonds 8.1 (<10k) and 8.2 (12k) and 9.1 (13k) all bookshelves. All decent speakers. You can use all these with stereo amps or AVRs. You can later buy floorstanders - when you can afford them-and move the bookshelves to rear channels in future when you build your HT. |

Dear Hemant, I agree 100 % with what everyone has mentioned above in their replies. You could run a simple test - audition the speakers with your eyes shut and imagine that all the speakers are floorstanders. Concentrate one by one on each intrument being played in the back ground. Go for the speaker where all the instruments sound great & real. Diamond 8.2 are good speakers in your budget and are available at Trinity Sound & Vision, R-Block GK-I, New Delhi Ph -26425222. If you still want to go for tight-budget florstander then try DIY stuff at EnBee Brothers, Shanker Market, CP If you want some used stuff then ask me Regards Sanjay |
