Hi All, My present Digital source is a Audio Analogue Primo Half width Cd player. Its main strengh is a silent -if slow to open and close- transport, a solid body and a digital out. The sound is smooth, and unirritating but I want more involvement. Instead of upgrading the Cd player, I am wondering if upgrading the DAC would help. There is no budget limit -on the lower side that is- and there is no posibility of buying the Electrocompaniet DAC for example. The Cambridge DAC magic seems to be the only contender available locally.Any idea how much it costs and whether it would be worthwhile. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Purnendu |

purnendu, i would actually suggest upgarding the CDP. if you are conssidering multiple digital sourcs then a DAC is a good idea. else a 1 box CDP will be more VFM |

Thanks for the response. How would a CDP be more value for money ? A CD player upgrade fom my present one would touch the Rs. 1 lakh mark, or at least 75-80 grand. On the other hand the AA Primo works fine, and a DAC would give it a better sound for much less than that. In the longer run with hard memory storage likely to become common, it does not make sense to spend so much on a CDP or does it? What is important is getting better sound from my existing digital source which is working fine mechanically. Purnendu |

Look at Peter Daniel DAC supplied by ARN systems. Nice DAC and good VFM. |

You may or may not like the Peter Daniel DAC depending on whether you like NOS DAC sound or not. Also do be aware its just 44.1/48 and 16 bit. |
