Hi,

I have recently bought a Marantz PM7200. I am looking for a pair of floorstanders.
I have auditioned
1. AE Aegis Evo 3
2. Wharfedale Diamond 9 series
3. Mordaunt Short
4. KEF iQ7

I found the AE Aegis Evo 3 to be a good match , but I would like to audition a few more speakers before I make a descision.

Please recommend a few more floorstanders which could be a good match.

I am looking for speakers in the range of 30k - 35k

Thanks in advance.

Actually the PM7200 & the EVO-3 are a great match and real value for money. In your price range the spks you mentioned are the only ones available. You can try and audition the DALI Concept 6 if your in Mumbai.

Check out Kef iQ5, it has got great reviews.
Even the iQ7 should be a good one but cant say if its in your budget. Dali is another good one though.

Try NPS Electronics, in Bangalore. They seem to be dealers for DALI.

I was not really impressed by the KEF iQ7 and especially for that price. Maybe I will try the Dali. How much does the concept 6 cost any idea?

I want to listen to the iQ5 , they have got rave reviews.

Thank you for the info guys.

Now that's good news! I so want to listen to that Arro speaker. The sound that it delivers from such a lean cabinet is said to be marvellous!

Shahruhk,
FYI Diana Krall owns a pair of Arros. Ofcourse it doesn't mean they are extra-ordinary or something. But they are good speakers and were one of the few I auditioned. You will probably love the Hawks too.

IMHO totems are a a bit overriced for their value... the Arros are perhaps the best of the lot but they should be assumed as bookshelves and not floorstanders and the bass is about the same as a Proac Tablette and the treble a bit more peaky.

One of my friend owns Totem Arros. He bought them for 65k's from Marbin Colah. The speakers are good for small rooms. These speakers cannot be driven with all amplifiers. After a certain volume (10-11 clock position) the woofer used to flatten out and the speakers used to make a heavy cracking noise. My friend 3 different amps (Nad 320BEE, Cayin TA30 and Cayin 40 watter Class A Amp) without any success. He mailed Totem and was adviced few high current amps . Finally he bought Creek 5350SE and now playing without any problem.

The ARROs still do have a problem with the woofer bottoming out & even a high-current Solid state will not cure this behaviour, but will to a certain extent not show up so rapidly due to better damping properties of the amplifier. Neverheless, at the kind of price in India, there are other better buys'.

52SE, AFAIK, is far more expensive than the Arros.

Totem arrow speakers according to a friend are more hype than matter...he has heard the forest and one more in the US since he stays there, but didnt think much of them.

If you have a woofer flapping problem with the arrows then methinks no amount of amplification, high or low current will stop it.....he will still find it happening at times when he least expects it :D.

Sharukh, go ahead and hear them...let us know.

when you do hear it..try the arros near the wall and away from it. it only has a 4.5" woofer but bass augmentation is surprsing with good placement...but if not placed well it will sound very dry . so do take that into considerations (& experimentation !) when you try it.

inspite of a low sensitivity it is well dirven by low powered tubes, amplifier power is definitely not going to be a problem.

Gentlemen - about the woofer flapping, I totally agree with what Manek says that no amp can cure that. Do note that Arros allow the user to load the cabinet with sand fill & to some extent will "mask" the woofer flapping defect once again by loading the cabinet at the cost of transprency, speed, tonality etc.

I totally agree with Manek that its a hyped product with good marketing! Better buys are probably Proac bookshelves (a stellar product) that may cost a little more. (Comeon, you dont replace speakers every now & then, do you?) Moreover, I wouldnt buy a product that carries a design flaw, after all the speakers are the device in the entire chain that is "closest to your ear!!!"

Views from fellow readers are welcomed.

Called up Boomarang - they say speakers will arrive in a week or two. Thing is, they've been saying that since over a month now

Anyway, I called up PLAY at Bandra. Heard the Monitor Audio silver series speakers partnered with some ("French company - made in China) electronics -forget the name.

The speakers impressed. The electronics, not quite. Will go back again to listen to the ProJect TT.
