It will provide you a USB ( PC or Mac ) to SPDIF / AES / Toslink interface. Works well for this as an interface, though the Built in DAC for analog output will not be a PATCH on your Reimyo DAC.

guess what ..I actually bought this thing ! its pretty awesome ! just plug in into the USB port and you can get a digital out for the DAC.

Arj, Congrats.

I had bought and used it for a while.

If you like it, do try the battery option, its a Worthwhile upgrade. Carefully note that ONLY Ni Cds Not Lead Acid batteries are used....

I used a 3 battery pac used for Cordless Telephones.

Sadly, the UD-10 that I sold to a friend, seems to have died yesterday... the computer will detect it as a USB device but not load it as a Audio device.

Incidentall, if you like the sound of the UD 10 and want to explore HDD playback, I would strongly recommende the Empirical Audio USB to SPDIF converter. Its approx US $ 1100, and sound s Fabulous. Maybe avaialbe on the net at a discount.... its a little box can should get here as easy as the UD 10.

Have fun.

( Oh Yes, IMHO, Foobar is MUCH better - open and transparent than iTunes )

Knofler...hhmmmm...I didnt go for it...
I don't like the music cause its quite POP nowadays and also his guitaring seems repetitious....But hey...am sure you enjoyed it...
I liked Alan Parson too but the sounds was quite low for a rock concert you know...Great band to experience in the flesh though...
Please don't say DEEP PURPLE....cause the public goes to hear the PUB songs only..."Space trucking" is my favourite...with the one of the most impressive drum solos ever...he wasn't fast or tremendously aggressive on that but he played a perfect part for the song and not match a 'SOLO'.
but i heard they had the best sound.
Bhagwan69 will definitely like to add his best experience for sure...

Got a fast connection two days ago,

Can yr connection deliver 10 GB per day ?

Which ISP and how much per month for this kinda download speeds in India ?

Incidentally, the Biggest Hurdle in the new rules (IMHO) is that anonymous uploaded files can ONLY BE DOWNLOADED 10 times a day !

You probably don’t have much hope of being the 1st 10 to try an download one of those files !

7-8GB per night easy Specially since RS premium gives maximum speeds. I'm on Tata Indicoms 2mbps plan, comes to around 1k/month.

Rapidshare has turned into Rapidsnare

They have changed their rules, ( effect 1st Nov ) and one of them is that ANY file uploaded will be allowed 10 downloads ONLY !

That includes paid or Free users !

That said, I have not had a problem with corrupted downloads. Maybe yr ISP's intermitent connectivity ?

Free users do not get the resume download function.

Also check the user comments, for the files that you are downloading. Has any otther user complained of errors in opening the files ?

PM me the file / disc names you are referring to .... May be I have downloaded sucessfully...

I have had tremendous trouble with broken downlaods with every DL manager...and have roamed the www to look for the best and have finally settled down on the most basic programme called RapidWareX.
Not had a problem since and...Low on features and high reliability...
You need to do your settings entered everytime you restart the program...

No Limit

I usually put 7 to 9 downloads overnight, each 100 MB.

I am typicaly done next morning.

Do note that on Rapidshare, download resume is ONLY for pay users.

No resume for free users.

I tried a few managers, and have settled on Internet Download Manager. I can select all the links in my browser, right click and say "download with IDM". I've set IDM to download just 2 files simultaneously, so I can use my bandwidth effectively.

Of course, my net conn worked for just 4 days. That coupled with the insane 2.6gb limit on RS, I haven't actually managed to d/l much

Yeah.
IDM was great until their server recognised it was a cracked and threw me out...
I then turned to Free Download manager which worked awesome for a while and then for stupid reasons the broken DL's started again.
If all else fails turn to RapidWareX

Amp nut what are your current thoughts on the music server thingie ?? have read too much around and am not sure of the direction to take..information overload !

Hi Arj,
I have been playing around with HDD playback, for the past 6 months or so, but do NOT ... by any streatch consider myself an authority on the topic, or comprehensive in my auditioning most products in the market.

However, I would like to take this opportunity to share some of my personal opinions :

1. HDD playback offers a GREAT level of convenience. As they say, there is no free meal. Hence you can spend all your money on good sound and buy a CD player, or take a hit in sound quality and trade part of it for convenience, and opt for a HDD playback solution. ( IMHO, this is thru for a budget of upto Rs 1,50,000 ... ie - IMHO again - any amount of upto Rs 1.5 L spent fully on an CD Player, will be a better audiophile product, that a similar priced HDD playback system).

2. I have not heard a PC with a good sound card, playing into a quality Hi Fi set up, but I am skeptical, because I have heard HDD playback systems ( eg the ZERO-ONE )that use (an expensive) sound card internally, and they do not violate my rule #1 above

3. The Zero-ONE HDD Playback system is IMHO a great product, currently available at a VERY Attractive price, from its Indian dealer Nova Audio - Mumbai.

ZERO-ONE Site:

http://www.zerooneaudio.com

I have heard it at my home for about 1 week, and it sounds VERY Good, offers great convenience, and a separate DAC that offers BOTH: SPDIF and I2S digital inputs.

Again IMHO, I2S is the correct digital interface for ANY audio DAC. ALL Others ( SPDIF, USB & Optical) are compromisess for convenience.
Still the Zero-One does not violate my rule #1

Check out this review for LOTS of technical info, options, and ofcourse a detailed review :

http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue20/zeroone.htm

4. I had bought the UD-10. Very Nioce product, but does not hold a candle to High performance playback, even as a USB to SPDIF converter. The UD-10's performance is Substantially improved with external battery supply.

Incidentally, the UD-10 has a built in DAC too... but a Low to Mid Fi product. Then again, its US $ 120.

I have been VERY Impressed with a demo I got from A2V of a Laptop feeding an Empirical audio USB to SPDIF converter (Rs 50K I was think recalling ... but Im not sure that iss correct ), feeding a Theta GenVIII ( Rs 6 Lakh ) DAC.

The sound was VERY VERY Good.

Bhagwan69 too has been VERY impressed with the sound odff a dCS USB DAC fed from a MAC and controlled from an iPhone / ipod Touch.

But these are SERIOUS systems, where the DAC alone costs WAY more than Rs 1,50,000.

Hence it seems to me that there are 2 main bottlenecks to HDD sound quality:

1. The Obvious - the DAC. Cheap DACs (Sub Rs 50K ) dont sound any better than proportionately priced CD players.

2. The USB to SPDIF converter.

You Arj, seem to be at the Happy ( ? ) poiint where you have a SUPERB DAC - the Remiyo.

If you can get yourself a Good USB to SPDIF converter, you will have a flying start to a True Hi Fi HDD playback system. However, a good USB toi SPDIF converter may be a bigger problem than you initially expect. It can easily throttle your DAC down to mid Fi performance.

For now, I am putting my money on a Giid CD player, and giving up on the convenience of a HDD system. For now, I will burn my WAV & FLAC files on Rs 10 CDs and listen to the music, whereever I dont have ( or not yet acquired ) the original premium CDs... MoFi, XRCDs, DCC, FIM etc..

Arj, do share your thoughts too...
