Hi.
I am getting an Home theater system from the US. This system doesnt have a voltage switch. Hence I will be buying a 240V to 110V converter to get this system to work. But will the difference in the cycles, 50Hz in the US and 60Hz in India, cause any ill effects in terms of audio quality and video quality ?

I've heard that this difference might cause the audio quality to go down. Can there be any noise due to the frequency difference ?

Also, what else should I buy, apart from a voltage converter, to get this system to work here in India?

Any thoughts will be greately appreciated.

Regards
Balaji.

Hey,
what are you planning to buy?
DVD Player or Surround Receiver?
In germany we have diffrent radio frequenzies and a diffrent voltage.
PAL TV System is 50 Hz and NTSC (US) is 60.
Many TVs here can handle both!

Am planning to buy a A/V receiver with the speaker system. The Onkyo dealer here in India told me that, there can be noise due to the difference in the frequencies. Is any one of you here aware of such a thing ? Is it true or is the dealer just trying to convince me to buy it from him ?

Not a good Idea. You WILL have problems, in the long term, if not immeadiatly.

Prices are cheaper in India for most things.

Well Balaji

Depends on which system you are buying from US. I hope it would be highly appreciable if you buy the electronics from abroad and the speakers in India. But mostly the prices are all par except for hi end electronics only. Depends on your taste, whether its more of music or movies.

Let us know on that so that we can suggest you the right electronics.

hi,
actually electronics are very cheap in the US compared to India- I myself am planning to get the harman/kardon AVR 235 from the states - Its 350 $ there and 32000 here-

Earlier i was planning for the Onkyo HTS 670 is for $ 310 there and 48000 here-

so actually nothing is at par here- I infact took the net prints to the Onkyo store and he didnt have an explaination of the price diff-

I even wrote to the Onkyo corp. but even have a "politically correct" answer ready- of duties and blah blah-

try singapore or malaysia - its the same electricity format as in india and quite cheaper-

can send yu ids and sites if yu are interested- but i personally think its a great idea for someone to pick it up-and save on the duties, handling and cartage-
