The pioneer is much better..but you would need to decide on the amp before going ahead.
Check the impedance at maximum output is attained by the amp before purchasing.

Hey Kewl,
Well why don't u look at Sony's two channel amps..
since u are looking only to add a sub, one 2 channel amp would more than suffice..
besides tyou would get around 500 watts RMS at 4 ohms..
For this i think you would have to look at a sub with 4 ohms SVC or DVC with dual 2 ohm VC or dual 8 ohm VC..

Check out these two models..
the first one is better IMHO..
SONY-XM2200GTX
Sony XM-SD22X

Sachi

Hey kewl,
okay..i guess u will need some juice to power the JBLs..
well in that case i think either of the amps will do..
Regarding the sub..
i suggest you look at pioneer 306 SVC model.
compare it with the sony sub in your car..
ask the person from whom ur buying to show them both for you..
Cheers,
Sachi

well. i think you can go for this setup..
you may have to check the piower rating on the tweeters to see if they can handle the power..frankly you don't need an external amp to drive the tweeters..the 17-23watts(depending on the headunit)is more than sufficient..use the preout for the fronts to power the front speakers and the preouts of the rears to power the rear speaker..

with the front speaker output of the headunit(the power out not preout) i think you can power the tweeters with a crosssover in the signal line. but check with the electrician on that or with the tweeter setup manual.

Regarding powering the DVC with a 2 channel amp in bridged mode..well i haven't come across many amps that can drive 2 ohms bridged..that would mean the amp will have to be stable at 1 ohm!! most of the JBL amps are 1 ohm stable.i know mine is:D

i feel its better to go for the single voice coil version where in you can feed the 350/400 watts bridged into 4 ohms.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Benkenobi

Bothj are excellent units..
If it were me i would go for the P1y..
Let me give you my reasons.
The only grouse i have with piooneer flip down units are that with usage the conection tends to become lose and becomes unbearable..
i don't know how reliable the motorized faceplate will be..but i am guessing its a better choice than the flip down.

Direct sub drive means you can drive the sub directly from the headunit without an external amplifier..
since you are not doing this(and i feel its not going to be worth your while to consider this as an option) and the fact that you get 6.5V preouts on the P1Y..i would definitely go for that.
Hope that was lucid enough.
