Million dollar Amp

Came accross this link for almost half a million dollar amp pair. More than a miilion would go for multichannel fantasy.

Hi Debu,

I recall reading this review years ago, in the original issue.

The apm seems to be a perfect audiophile mix of heady sound and technical BULLSHIT.

If I recall correctly, the amp rated at 150 ( tube ) Watts, put out a Max of approx 30 Watts on the test bench, with HEAVY clipping... probably 30% or more distortion !

I think the Stereophile site happily goes not carry that part of the review.

Quite agree. All the hype & hullaballoo is purposely designed by the marketing guys to shut off your own judgement & commonsense and fall hook,line &sinker for their line.
And, as I mentioned elsewhere in some thread, magazines, even reputed ones, have a business to run; what they say can be a starting line for your own research but should never be taken as the Gospel.

output of 150 W CLASS A.
goodness it consumes around 1-1.5KW of power !!!!

This amp is sold in India.
Mr. Gupta represents Wavac in India. i.e. The Soundsmiths.

So, that's that for the Wavac SH-833. I can't explain why Michael found its sound so seductive; all I can do is point to the measurable problems or audible idiosyncrasies that must be listened through to hear what it does right. All I have to do now is work out how to get this mondo amplifier back out of my basement and into the SUV so that Mikey can spend another couple of weeks luxuriating in its sound.—John Atkinson
