Help required for buying bookshelf speakers

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the long post...

I have been browsing this forum since past few days and have found it really informative. I would like some inputs from the veterans out there about setting up my HT system. I have a Yamaha RX-V450 receiver and am looking for front bookshelf speakers that will go well with my receiver. Following are my requirements:

1) Speaker Type: Bookshelf (for front LR)
2) Budget: Rs 15,000/pair max. (I have already stretched it from 10,000 to 15,000, can't go beyond that)

Following are the brands I have auditioned:
1) Torvin - Model: TP4, cost 9,200/pair
2) Tannoy - Model: Fusion 2, cost 18,000/pair (Out of budget)
3) Acoustic Energy - Model: ??, cost 17,000/pair (Out of budget)
4) Space - Model: ??, cost ~10,000/pair
5) Sonodyne - Model: Sonus 1501 (Didn't like them at all, I think their genie series is good but the Sonus bookshelf...)

Of these I found Torvin to be the optimum in terms of value for money and the sound quality. Tannoy was my second choice because it costs twice as much as Torvin. Didn't like anything else as much as these two. Apart from these I am also planning to audition, Polk Audio Monitor and RTi series speakers.

Are there any recommended brands for my budget and can someone please let me know where I can find them in Bangalore. I am planning to go to Reference Point and Pro FX this weekend.

Try Wharfedale also, I liked it more than Polk Audio. When I went to Wharfedale showroom at Gem Plaza, Infantry road, he was using rx-v450...That way it will be easier for you since you too have rx-v450.

I also auditioned Torvin but it seemed a bit harse when I played 'Highway Star' by Deep Purple. It sounded better when I played Peter Gabriel's 'The Rhythm of the heat'.

Polk Audio and Wharfdale would be in your budget...
Acoustic Energy is also good...

My sentiments exactly, though it fits well within my budget. My receiver has Bass and Treble controls for the front LR channels, will that make the Torvin speakers sound better (in case I have to go back to my old budget of 10K)?

Any particular model in Wharfedale that I should look for (Diamond 9.0/9.1/9.2/8.1/8.2)?

Try everything that fit your budget...specially try 9.1, 8.1, 8.2...All within 15k. 8.1 will come within 10k.

what is the difference between a Poly carbonate tweeter in contrast with Aluminium Dome tweeter (with Neodyium Magnet) ???

what effect does it have on the music and on the ears (!!)

Has anyone auditioned Boston Acoustics CR series?

I auditioned CR 65 and right now they are number one in my list (price/pair about 11400/- including taxes). I wanted to audition the CR 75 also but they are gonna be out of stock for more than a month.

They now have dealership for Marantz, Boston Acoustics, Mordaunt-Short

My recommendation would be the following :

TANNOY FUSION 2
MONITOR AUDIO BRONZE 2
MISSION M32

Take a demo for these, negotiate with the dealers on price.
See if you can get these for 15k.
These are some of the good bookshelves at around this price.
