For my 25x16 ft hall a local Designer-Audio delear has asked me to invest some 6k for 75mtr of speaker cables and 2k for 8mtr of 'sub woofer' cables.

Is it really justified?

What is the Home Theatre Equipment that you are installing ?

If its worth several Lakhs, better cables will tell.

If not, ....

The install guys Always push this angle and make LOADS of money, showing their labour cost at just Rs 1500 or so.

My neighbour had that experience 2 Days ago !

A Bose AM15 system to be installed :

He wanted similar amopunts for the cables.

For the Brackets he asked for Rs 850 EACH for 5 brackets ( Non Bose, substitute brackets ) These are priced at Rs 250 a PAIR in the market....

Today Home Theatre installations are done by agents / Franchisees. The charges per installation offered by the company are a meagre Rs.500 per installation which includes Hardware like conduits, clips, screws etc. and training for the customer. The supplier then asks the franchisee to make his margin by selling accesories like speaker stands, cables etc. to cover his overhead costs.

The customer unaware of the market rates and wanting to own the "best quality" stuff falls for the deal. Most of these installation "Engineers" as they are called do not know a watt from an ohm. They do exactly as they are told and are instructed "sound should emanate from all 5 speakers" for the customer to give his final approval.

important thing is to know which cables he is putting in.

the above works to around Rs 80/m which is not exactly unreasonable..

does anyone know the price of a "good" DYI cable ?

maybe you could procure such cables with a bulk discount and then just pay installation charges ?

Praful, one recommendation-if you plan to install the cables at the ground level, plz put them inside a conduit-some years back, rats chewed up my speaker cables!
A conduit wld also keep them out of reach of toddlers/safai & pocha walis...

It means Rs 27/ft for speaker cable and Rs 80/ft for subwoofer cable. Please check what cable make he is using, and whether you need the length mentioned. Just for a comparison, I spent Rs 60/ft for a 5mtr subwoofer cable with built in gold plated connector ends and almost the same rate for Kimber Kable speaker cable.

Hi all, Where can i get good and economy speaker and subwoofer cables in BANGALORE. I require 25mtr of speaker cable and 10mtr subwoofer cable. I checked up with ProFx, they are quoting 90Rs per sqft (their brand - may be china) and branded starts from 250 or 300 per sqft.

any audio dealer in bangalore will have cables. In the past I had bought spkr cables from the jamo shop, their OFC spkr cables with transparent insulation. i have lived with them for quite a while in the past and were pretty decent.
