I just got my marantzsr5500 receiver.im using it just for 2 channel right now.the built quality of the receiver ,is absolutely superb. Sound wise ,i dont know why,im not getting it right. All i have played is a few audio cds.im hearing just ordinary sound. When i took a demo, preveously, using an old marantz receiver, the sound was crystal clear.now im using the digital out[coaxial]of a sony DVD player[yes ,the slim one]to play cds. the speakers that im using is a pair of sony hifi speakers.i have a pair of boxy vintage kenwoods,to which ,i've been listening, until now,i was pretty ok with that sound. but, when i connect the kenwoods to the receiver, the sound was dull, unexciting, thatswhy,i decided to use the sony's,which are bright and somewhat inaccurate. although now its somewaht better, its not something that i expected, considering the demo that i took. Yes ,i planning to change the speakers soon..im using a cheap coaxial[its 400Rs.chinese stuff, but quality ok,gold terminals etc]. The DVD player is actually not mine,i am going to buy one soon. Lastly,im using high guage electric cable for loudspeakers[supposed to be OFC]. Is it the DVD player, that degrades the sound. All i have in mind is the sound that i heard in the demo room. The front speakers are set to 'Large',with the Surrounds 'none' and sub 'on'and bass mix 'on'.This gave better results with bass, eventhough, not too great. Many people in this forum has 'sr5500'.can u help me out of this.. |

dude....i m not a real expert in the audiophile stuff, but i think theres isnt nythin rong with the dvp or the coax cable...get some decent quality spkr wires...are the sony spkrs you are using from some old sony hifi system...??? if yes, then firstly u need to change them get a decent pair of hi-fi spkrs..bookshelves or towers...i tried doin the same with my yamaha recv and spkrs from my old kenwood hifi....and it sounded much bad than i expected it to ..you have a one of the best entry level rcvr...try and get the most out of it.. nindo [Beitrag von nindo am 11. Buddy Neono, Are you using a sub ? If yes then set the speakers to small. If you are not using a sub then Turn the sub to "off", and see if there is a "2 channel Stereo" option. Also see if there is something called "Tone Defeat", normally it should be kept on while listening to pure 2 channel stereo, it basically allows you to bypass the DSP circuits. I think if you set it right then you should get great sound. I have heard it in 2 channel at a showroom and can confiidently say that you have made a great choice. For the DVDP, go for a Philips if you plan to buy a new one. They are supposed to give excellent Stereo performance with CDs. |

Marantz receivers have "S-Direct" as a tone bypass. Press that button and enjoy. Marantz receivers are pretty good in stereo. (I'd go as far as saying I prefer the sound of my SR 4400 to the NAD C320 BEE!!) |
