hi people is it a good idea to buy the HK AVR 235 7.1 receiver or the ONKYO TX-SR503 7.1 and put a 5.1 or a 6.1 speaker set from yamaha probably like the NSSP-1600 or the NS-P610 CH or NS-P236 to complete the HT now the confusion is 1- which of the 2 receivers is better? 2- the wattage/ rms issues when you use over powered or underpowered receivers 3-how good are the yamaha speaker sets? any other brands comparable 4-what difference wud it make if we add powered subs to a receiver? please advice rgds anirvan |

It would be HK anytime for me.....they are better in almost all respects than the Onkyo reciever you have mentioned. The wattage are more authentic as well as the sound quality. I wont recommend Yamaha acoustics. What is your budget for the speakers set. An active sub adds tremendously to the low end grunt which cant be compromised in a HT setup. |

5.1 that you are talking about is the analog outs of your DVD Player. You can connect your DVD player to your AVR via coaxial or digital out. (It should be there in your DVD player). Then you can also enjoy 7.1 through your AVR.... |

Its a great deal. Just check out if this avr has 110/220V options, if yes then you can straight away use it here without needing a transformer. Hey, Can you tell me one thing, if you are getting it from US then what will be the duty and other charges you will be paying once you get it to India ? |

hi abhi- duty works out to be 35% but again a number of times things till 500 USD sre exempted-nowadays like 1 laptop and other things are exempted- basically yu have to get it out without getting stuck at the customs- also i checked with them the models are US specific so wud have to use a step down transformer- now that i am fixed an the HK AVR 235- suggest me a nice and affordable 5.1 speaker system to go with this- i quite like the yamaha NS series check this link- http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4036254 so that the total package is about 500 USD - i am no george lucas- and wud be more than happy if i cna compile this to start with as my 1st HT system- regs anirvan |

Anirvan, For $129 you are getting a good package from yamaha but... You have to remember that with the kind of AVR you are buying you will definitely need to upgrade your system soon (If you want to extract the true potential of your AVR). If your budget is strict then, its ok. BTW Have auditioned these speaker set ? Hope you are not buying it blindly..... Anyway I have to agree that its very difficult to get a 5.1 package under $150. Cant comment much because I havent heard these Yamaha speaker myself. |

NO IDEA ABOUT DELHI BUT I KNOW A PLACE IN BANGALORE WHERE YOU COULD HAVE AUDITIONED THEM.... I RECOMMEND YOU GO THROUGH REVIEWS ON THE NET AND IF POSSIBLE UPGRADE YOUR BUDGET A BIT AND GO FOR A BETTER PACKAGE. NO DOUBT YOU ARE TAKING A RISK BY NOT AUDITIONING THEM YAMAHA IS NOT A BRAND KNOWN FOR SPEAKERS ITS ULTIMATELY YOUR CHOICE BUT I WONT RECOMMEND SUCH AN APPROACH....... |
