How Large Is The Audiophile Industry ?

I have often wondered about the size ( in value or Number of Units sold ) of the audiophile industry.

Surely there MUST be some formal figures or atleast Gustimates ?

How many Audiophiles are there Worldwide ?

Has the industry grown or fallen in the past few years ?

Anyone has info, or pointers where I can find some info ?

Here is one reply I got

Audiophiles, or audiophooles???

Unless any other club can go better, I think here in Melbourne we have
the largest group of Audio Club members with an active membership of
over 150.

It does not provide any specific answers to my question, but do checl out the link ... and their DIY section !

Hopefully we could graduate to that level, some day.

P.S. I ( personally ) would define an audiophile as a person that Enjoys music, and actively persues this interest.

The industry pandering to the audiophile is the audiophile industry... IMHO.

My sense is that the HT, MP3 iPod personal stereo and perhaps the car audio segments are really booming.

Doubt whether the separate HiFi component market is growing at all...

I would imagine that this can be co-related to the sale of CDs.'cept for few nuts
