I love radio..especially here in the US. The quality of material being played 24/7 on the airwaves if just nothing short of amazing..an music nut's wet dream if you will. I am starting to look at a high quality tuner vintage or new for my system. I have noticed that i listen to the radio nearly 40-50% of the time. SO a good tuner is important to me. Anyone else in the same boat or somewhat similar situation? What sort of tuner do you guys have? ANy recommendations? |

Quality FM reception in India is best forgotten ... even as a dream Even my car stereo shows up how pathetic our FM broadcasts are. Mumbai's FM 107.1 (AIR) often has a lound 50Hz hum... sometimes for Days at an end ... Savyasaach, do give due attention to a good antenna ! |

I recommend Onkyo Tuners from the late 80s for FM. Pretty good selectivity, nice sound, easy to get and not to expensive. In the US the T-4700 for example. |

Saachi, this is the comprehensive site for vintage FM tuners. I used this when I bought 2 of my vintage tuners & the advice metted out re. electronics & antennas (Amp_Nut's advice is very important if you want best reception. Do not underestimate what a good antenna can do for you!) is very good indeed. Plus, many, many vintage models are tested & rated: http://www.fmtunerinfo.com/ this could be days & days of reading for you! |

haha..yeah b'walla i have spent a fair few hours on that site. Just bought a sanyo T35 plus. Getting ready to buy another kenwood KT5020 tuner and being on the lookout for a cheap pioneer TX9100, sansui TU-717 , Tu919 or TU9900. FOr now the digital tuner sare still supposedly really good. I plan on having one in my office at work along with my headphone amp as a source. Excited!! |

nice looking piece. Didn't know that Sanyo made any tuners worthy of mention.... I bought 2 vintage tuners some years back - a Technics ST-8077 & a Sansui TU-D99X. Both are in the middle of the pack which is OK for me as I don't listen to FM all that much.
some nice looking pieces on your list. Good luck fighting for the Sansui tuners you listed. They are very popular on any used market & get snapped up very fast. Also, if you get any of these vintage analog tuners you MUST have them re-tuned & re-calibrated by someone. Just buying them off the web & using them is usually not good enough as you will not get the max out of them. The tuning will also not be precise. Plus, like Amp_Nut already wrote - get a very antenna for your house/apt/condo. You FM tuner is only as strong as your antenna.
man, you are really into it, no?? don't get fired just because you are listening to music while you should be working..... |

well picked up a Kenwood KT-5020. this is supposedly among the top 10 tuners. depending on how good the reception is at my place i will look into an antenna. Gonna pass on the sansuis..much too rich for my blood...unless i find one at a thrift shop or yard sale [Beitrag von Savyasaachi am 09. Mrz 2011, 03:47 bearbeitet] |
