the various firing terms refer to driver cone direction - front/down/back. I personally do not know what difference in sound or output this can have. Active sub refers to one with a built-in power amp, passive sub is just a driver with crossover and needs to be driven by an external amp. |

Sandeep, could you explain more why a downfiring sub will not have deep good bass as a front firing one? I guess by deep bass you mean something below 40Hz - much below the threshold for directionality - the gap between the driver and floor would be much smaller than the wavelength and hence would cause no resonance or reflections - the entire arrangement is expected to act like one cohesive sound souce, so how does the position affect deep bass? |

well i am talking about the sudden impacts you check this practically i have seen them practically ... I think this is the reason : the sudden impact (like step response will give sudden cone movement so In front firing it will directly reach the person with heavy impact but in the downfiring it hits the floor first and then it reaches the human ear... As far as the wavelength is concerned lik you said it will be very long it will be in terms of meters..like... I was my practical experience with the subs of both of the kinds so.. I said like that... I dont say tat downfiring will not sound good.. they have their advantages... But theroritically like you said there is not diff... But practical case there is difference you can check it if you want.. This is what i can say... |

If its a practical experience, then across how many subs and how many brands have you seen this? I ask because in order to generalize as you have done, it requires a large sample statistics, especially with the lack of a theory to support it. I have heard other experienced people mention that it hardly makes any difference. So I would advise anirvan not to worry about the firing direction too much. I like mine to be downward firing because the fragile cone is more protected and because its cool |

firing downward or forward each manufacturer adds diffrent spices to sell...if you like a downward go for it.But as ravi suggested downward looks cool and no fragile grills... |
