Hi all, I am new to this community. I joined this because i think u guys are great. I need some help on my Hyundai Home Theatre system. I own an Onida DFX-5100 DVD player and Hyundai Home theatre system (dont have the model number at the moment) which they have introduced recently in the indian market. I bought it considering the price which was Rs.6000/-. I have connected the HTS to the DVD player through its individual analog points. The HTS has a built in amplifier built into the sub-woofer. The company claims the output as 3000 watts pmpo. Which after listening to it i dont think is exactly what it is (i am confused actually). My satellites are ok but the problem is with the Sub-Woofer. it lacks the bass and the thump that should be there in a sub. Am i missing something?? is there a problem with the HTS or the HTS built-in amp ??? or is the problem being created by the DVD player. Now i need your suggestions on whether i should buy a powered-subwoofer, or a new HTS with A/V reciever or local built amp+woofer. What should i go for??? I am based in Delhi. I have a budget of Rs. 15K. and suggest some showrooms/shops where i can get a demo. Please help me. Thanks |

hey sunil...... to tell u frankly u have got for what u hav paid.......u cant expect much at this price......but the best thing i wud tell u is try placing the subwoofer to the left or the right corner of ur room as close to the wall as possible and then see the difference.....i am sure there wud be some difference in the performance......one more tweak u can do is place a small carpet as the same size as the subwoofer occupies below the sub.....this will absord some sound to give u greater depth in the bass......another thing u can do is place a carpet occupying the floor area of ur room and cover up all the windows with as much curtains as possible....... let me if what changes did u get after the sbove settings..... edges |

Go to a jbl showroom and ask for their escxcite package. It costs around 20k and is a 5.1 dts system with in built amp. Its worth every penny. You will get to hear what you have been missing. At a budget of 15-20k you shouldnt think of individual AV recievers and speakers. This JBL package should prove better than you expectation. here is the link, www.jbl.com/jbl_5.1_home_theater_system.htm BTW the Hyundai system you are talking about is crap. |

For 6000/- what else can you get... The other day I saw a LG DVD Hi-fi (?) system selling at 13k with 20 free DVDs... The market price of DVDs should add up close to 10k...One need to stay away from such systems... |

hi all Thanks guys for your suggestions and replies. I know considering the price i shouldnt expect for performance. The only thing that i am now concerned about is that, can i improve the bass by buying a separate powered Sub-woofer for my system. Like i said i am not happy with my existing sub. What would you suggest for the bass. will the powered sub work with my existing system if i attach it to the dvd player directly or do i need to buy an ampli/AV rec. for it. One question is that what do you think about the Philips LX600 HTS. I think this one has an AV reciever and 5.1 spk sets and is under the 15K mark. Another question i have a creative Inspire 5200 which i use for my PC. Can i use it in some way with my DVD Player. If yes, then how can i attach it (procedure ???) Sunil [Beitrag von SUNILYO am 18. Hi Sunil, Looking at your problem and your current setup, I would say dont try to integrate few cheaper products to get one good product. That doesnt work. You can definitely buy a powered sub and attach it to your current DVD player but then the bass will be over powering and your other 5 channels will again trouble you with bad sound. I mean it must all work in tandem to finally give you a good HT experience....right. For that you got to stick to a good product within your budget. I know there is always a tendency to re-use our current setup while upgrading to a new one. Just like you just wanna replace your Hyundai sub with a better one and keep your other five channels the same. It wont work in my opinion. Basically in HT all the 5.1 channels should be well matched (power wise, frequency band wise, quality wise) and I dont think you do justice by spending another 10-15k on a good active sub while keeping your rest of the system way below par. So I would suggest to upgrade the whole package (within your budget). As far as the philips HT system is concerned, I have seen that, Its just average...not bad but neither as good. I would suggest you stay away from Sony, Panasonic, Aiwa, Philips stuff while buying speakers atleast. I would still suggest you to go ahead and look at the JBL EscXcite package. Its a fully loaded 5.1 Dolby/DTS system, with one Sub and 5 surround channels. The Sub also contains the amplification units for all the 5.1 channels. All you have to do is connect it to your exsisting DVD player and enjoy some real HT stuff. Its just 20k (should be within your reach).... |

Hi Abhi & Thanks a lot for that information. I have got the point what you were trying to tell me. Now i more question. While going through a few HTS websites and forums i came across the terms Dolby digital decoders. Does the JBL HTS have this decoder in-built ??? or does it rely upon the DVD player (I own an ONIDA DVD player model no.: DFX-5100P). Another but last question. Are any finance schemes available to avail the JBL HTS. and do you have any idea of JBL showrooms where i can go and get a DEMO. Thanks again. Sunil |

Yes the JBL package has the Dolby Digital/DTS decoder in built, it doesnt depend on your DVD player for the same. As far as JBL showroom is concerned, I am sure there must be a showroom in Delhi. Just post a thread on this forum as well as in the Stereo section and ask for JBL dealers in Delhi....you will surely get the address. Look at the link I have posted in the first thread, It gives you the details about this HT system. |

Hi Sunil, I know what you mean when you say if you could integrate the Creative 5200 speakers with the DVD player. Pls don;t try it coz I have researched that option and frankly feel it a waste of time. The 5200 are good speakers (That i also own for my comp) but only for gaming and occasional MP3 music. Beyond that trying to integrate it for music or movies is not worth it. If you still want to go down that route then try the decoder offered again by creative. It retails for around 11K and you can also connect multiple sources like your comp, tape deck, cd player, etc. If you do get the decoder look at some of the better speakers from Creative like the megaworks or the THX certified ones from Altec Lansing (Both retail for around 20K) down the line. Don't push the 5200 much otherwise you will blow the tiny sats. Otherwise start afresh (You really haven't lost much, just the 6K speakers which you can definitly sell for something) keeping the DVD player. Look at getting a good AV receiver and 2 speakers. Later you can look at surround/centre speakers and sub. I know this exercise will take time and also require increased investment but if you are passionate about movies and music then the music will more than compensate. |
