Hi ,
I was reading a multichannel SACD review of Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon". The SACD is recorded to suit multichannel(5.1) and claims to be giving some great music. The same SACD when played on a normal CD player and a 2.1 system will not give the same effects as that when played on a multichannel system.

Is this going to be the trend for future recordings ? Or is it just a specific case of Pink Floyed ?

If this is going to be the trend of the future recordings, then what about the future of our normal 2.1 pure stereo amplifiers ?

This review is on the latest AVMaxmag.

well the clash betwwen DVD A & SACD is over and the winner is : The CD

http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/audioresearch_cd3mkii.htm

mutichannel audio may no really nake off the way it is talked about. the hassles of setting 5 or more speakers is so much more than settin up 2, not to talks of the cabling invilved.
and Wireless speakers are too expensive to really take off.
hence the 2 Channle stereo might just outlive everything due to pure practicality !

I have heard the DSOTM in a multichannel setup and it is Amazing. but do not think i would be able to put up the space and money to actually have a equivalent multi channel system at home. for a percentage of that cost i can actually upgrade my stereo system to the next level !

-on the other hand the SACD recording of Come away with me (Norah jones) was th same as the cd version as they used the same master !!!!

Hi guys,

There is so much enjoyment still in two channel sound, that multichannel sound for me is a moot point.

Besides, it's supposed to be about music, isn't it! In spite of all the hoopla about multichannel sound these past 5 years, how much music has been issued in multichannel format? How many reissues are you going to listen to? For some of us who have large libraries of music, two channel will serve for the rest of our lives.

You really haven't experienced the exuberence and joy of music in "lowly" two channel sound till you have heard a good valve amp and speaker setup!

Viren.

Viv,

I think the reviewer said that the 5.1 layer was sounding better than the 2ch CD layer. May be true, all I can say is that the CD layer of DSOTM SACD is the best I have heard on digital format but it is still inferior to the worst LP pressing released in US by Arista our Indian Lp will blast the SACD to bits. The timbre of Sax and guitar, the weight of Coins falling all sounds so natural on LP played through a good vinyl set up.

You can say that Digital and LP are different versions of DSOTM

Ani,
You are right. It was mentioned that the 5.1 layer was sounding better than the 2 channel layer.
But I tried surfing the net on this particular topic, and conclude that the 2 channel stereo is still the best for pure music.

That review is somewhat misleading I must say!!
