Harman Kardon v/s NAD

hey guys,
what is your take on the harman kardon stereo integrated amps and recievers against the nad amplifiers.
i have listened to the hk amps and found them to be warm and the sound quality was very good. i have however, not listened to any of the nad amps. could any of you share your thoughts.

heard both, evaluated both..HK670, both made in china, both good sound, but the only thing that put me off with the HK was that there was a huge difference in sound when the "source direct" switch was put on and off, maybe pointing to the fact that their bass/treble control circuits may not be of very good quality.

Hi Benks,

The general consensus is that HK leans towards the brighter side whereas NADs are quite warm.

If you found the HK to be warm, then NADs would be even warmer....

it seems that the current ratring of the hk is a lot more than the nad's . what do you make of this. and i know that the hk's put out their rated power and a bit more tbefore they start clipping. is this a feature of the nad too.
what do u make of the fact that the current rating of the hk is higher than the nad's. how does this affect sound quality and ability to drive speakers?

Benks,

High current rating is a definite plus, it is not only the wattage that counts. NAD and HK are both known for delivering more power than what their rating specifies, and can thus drive difficult(within reason)loads better than many of their contemporaries.

Although I do not wish to influence your decision in any manner, between the various NAD/HKs I have heard, I personally prefer the NAD sound (I've even owned a NAD pre/power for a few years).

Is there no way you can listen to NAD?

dont fret over the nad too much if you cant lay your hands on it. If you found the hk good enough then shortlist it...but by all means try as much as possible to check out the competition.

The HKs were very very good untill around 5 years back. due to some reason they have fallen out of favour with Audiophiles since them
They do have very good current rating and found them to be on the warmer side..
Also as Manek mentioned, they drive difficult loads quite well.

n case u can get hold of a 2nd Hand HK of more than 5 years of age..you might actually get a much mbetter amp (From what I hear)

I had HK680 till last year. It was more warmer than Nad.
