hi guys
what would be your choice of system if you had a lakh of rupees aka Rs 100000 to spend wisely on a good hi-fi system.

I would go the secondhand way. That way your money will travel further and you can get really good stuff.Normally audiophiles take good care of their systems and speakers and amps last 15 years plus easily.Buy a good new source.

If I were in a country that had manufacturers representation representation and a fairly mature market I would go the second hand route. I would not go this way in India.

Buying new is the way for me and from a reliable outlet which will honour warranties. thats the way i buy my stuff.

Secondly, if I had 1lac rupees my choice would be a fine pair of speakers like one of the cadence line or quad or dynaudio. Amps and source to match. Cadence NAD, marantz, Arcam are the amps I would look at and sources would be nad, arcam, marantz.

Invest in Ral estate. sell after 3 years with hopefully enough money to buy a Reimyo CDP + Sugden masterclass Int Amp + JM Lab Diva Utopia Speakers and Nordost Vylkyra cables

Else I am pretty happy with my system

For a lakh i would go for Cadence Arita with Nad gear. I prefer Nad amps to Marantz because Marantz's bass is tad slow to Nad. Moreover, Nad gels beautifully with Cadence.
IMO Manek has the best combination for or under a lakh.

myriad...thanks for the complement :-)
yes my system, though modest, sounds terrific for its price. When I did my research many moons ago(2 yrs) for a good setup for X sum of money I could not do better than the combo I have and even today for under one lakh this combo seems utterly unbeatable to me. I've looked and searched high and low. Some prefer the Cadence Diva's to my Arita's. The Diva's and the nad gear sounds good too and that would fit in a lakh as well. NAD320bee is by far according to me the best amp nad has currently in its classic line. I prefer it to the 350/352 and 370/372.

So ojoi, you have me who seconds myriad on his equipment recomendation.

Hi Ojoi,

I entirely agree with Manek and Myriad.NAD and Cadence together sound fabulous...I am listening to NAD C 350 and Divas for more than 2 years.

Using a NAD CDP will definitely augment the sound...

Dear VJ,
Hi! Sorry cannot give you a pre/pwr/cdp and tower spks for a lac. You need to go the 2nd hand way or as Manek suggested buy NAD/CADENCE. Either up your budget or buy 2nd hand. With LINN & PROAC no chance at all in ur budget.

If you buy new, there isn't much of a choice on price. They are sold across India at the same prices....local taxes vary.

Bombay, has a cadence dealer J&B sound, Jacob is the person you should talk to. He is at bandra, linking road...opposite amarsons. Phone number..9820285812
The other option is to talk to cadence in pune or Mahendra Dave(oceanic sound) and buy it directly from them. Phone number 26342658.
Either way I dont think there will be any price difference. If you want to save on octroi then you may have to go to pune nd pick up the speakers yourself and drive back to bombay. I suggest you talk to both and figure out the best way. If you need to hear them with the NAD then J&B sound has both on demo.
