Hi, I came across this thread over a AK. http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=232446 I for one have always been partial to Bluegrass/Country &Western/Folk and American Roots music. However since I got the SET amp I find myself listening to and buying more Jazz albums. Was wondering if anyone on this forum has similar experiences. Regards Rajiv |

Hi, You are right, the equipment do influence your choice of music. One will ulitmately return to your true love after the honey moon in over I feel that the type of colouration of the equipment is what makes one to lean towards a particular type of music. If your system is towards neutral side one may enjoy various genere of music through it. |

It's been the other way around with me Over the years I find my self listening to a wide variety of music, across genres. IMHO a decent HiFi system allows me to 'get into' the music so much better. |

well i would say you begin to appreciate more of music with good systems. at least with me. I have deveoped a love for hindustani (unbearable in bad systems..unlike carnatic), western classical (dynamic range unmatched..but only in good systems), female vocals, jazz and esoteric world music purely because of a good hifi. so it has influenced it all. i can even listen to Kodo drummers which is unlistenable in a Non Hifi system. although Rock still remains primary interest |

My primary listening used to be rock. I still listen to rock a lot(Almost 30 percent) But as the system evolved I started to get a kick out of “unamplified natural sound” as opposed to “electronic sound”. I still like the creativity in rock although most recordings and quite bad and they are quite bad to evaluate a system. Jazz, western and Hindustani classical music forms most of my collection in “unamplified natural sound” category and they sound divine in a resolving hifi system. Rock is still listenable in a much less resolving system. I agree that a good hifi can broaden your musical horizons. I am not sure if it will change your taste in music. You may start to avoid non-creative music as your musical senses evolve. Examples of such music there in almost all genres. |
