Hi

Currently I am having a NAD 215 THX stereo amp, NAD 1000s preamp and Marantz OSE LE CD player with me. I am planning to buy a new speaker system. How's sonodyne Sonus 2605 FLRS? What can be the recommended speaker system with the above.

Best regards

HI Deepug,

Whats your budget like ?

Your amp is pretty powerful hence speaker load should not be a constraint..and most speakers, especialy if neutral or slightly forward sounding should sound good.

Hi Ari,

I made a mistake it's 216 THX. My budget will be around INR 50,000 + some few thousands. It would if you could suggest me a good FLRS for this. I am at Bangalore.

you should find the usual suspects in the forum archives

For that range you can do much better that Sonodyne - Mission, KEF..think even B&w may have a good floorstander in that range.
Think I read even PSB is available in India from one of the posts.

But with your amp..even if you can manage a Bookshelf Dynaudio model, which is not an easy load usually, that would work very well .

Hi Ari,

How about Jamo E855? Any idea where I could get PSB, Dynaudio, Mission in Bangalore.

HI Deepug,
I am not too knowledgeable on the Bangalore scene, but can add my comments on the speakers which I have heard in various dealers with different electronics. you should get reviews of these anyway from here

http://www.ecoustics...aker/Alpha_Name/All/

Dynaudio is perhaps the most "High end" of them even it Boofkshelf ie Dynaudio42 has a Bass response as good as most other floorstanders.

The Jamos are a Danish brand which was never fully in High end Audio and is still more on teh HT fornt, hence you may do better with the rest !

The Missions are very decent speakers expecially at the entry level as they usually have a very good midrange, which is important for vocals and hence more musical. PSB is also very well rated, and if i remember there was someone from Hydrabad who was loooking for one..you should find that in one of the posts.

Manek should be around soon..he perhaps knows more on the Bangalore scene as well as on the Jamos, which I have not heard.

hi deepug...

Jamo E855 are good speakers but a better bang for your buck would be cadence diva or even the cadence arita bookshelf...I have still to find a 50K pair of speakers to better the cadence diva's or the cadence aritas.

Quad 21L is also a very good buy after cadence. Both of them are available in Bangalore.

For cadence you can contact Prithviraj Vedpathak(dealer for Cadence in Bangalore at prithvidac@yahoo.co.in.

For quad designer_audio@hotmail.com. Designer Audio are national distributors for wharfedale and quad in India. If you pick up any AVmax magazine you will find their full page ad too with dealer addresses.

I would strongly second Manek on the QUAD as well..Not sure of its price tho.
Even the QUAD11L bookshelf is really good and should go very well with your Amp.

Hi Arj, Manek and the rest of you guys..

Been a long time since I logged on. My music has fully got me glued on for every second I can get free. The dyno`s are just supper. The big sound felling is intoxinating. I think I have bought off half of the "Planet M" cd`s. Ha! Ha! The sound is so deep and real, it seems they were playing in front of you. What music do you guys like??

The system is improving in sound almost everyday. And also every time after about 20-30 mins of listenning the sound starts gets richer. The highs sound so sweet and the lows are deep. Maybe the lows will improve further as time goes. The mids are tight and ..................WOW.

After all the hassels I went thru getting my system I think it was all worth it.
Cheers guys

Hi Guys,

Actually I am looking for buying PSB Image 4T along with some NAD components. I haven't gotten my stuff yet as 10octaves.com and/or LaKozy are out of stock at this moment for some component I am looking for. You can contact Manas Ratha (manasr@10octaves.com) or Priyesh Patel of Lakozy (lakozyelectronics@vsnl.net)to enquire. I think they have some in stock. They may also have some dealer/distributor in Bangalore for you to listen to. Unfortunately they don't have one in Hyderabad.

Good Luck!

deepug,

The cadence diva was called cadence DS earlier which is on the site. Both are brilliant speakers.

The quad 21L is available for 45k+ taxes(thats what I remember reading in the AVmax price list, maybe I could be off by a couple of thou)...the 22L is more expensive but hear them out.

Ah cheraz....thought wee'd lost you.

Good for you pal that your system has the synergies you were looking for and is singing !

Yeah you did go thru some crap getting it all together.

Since you asked what music I listen to here goes :

Old JAZZ, swing, western classical, pop(as in sinatra, tony bennet, etc)

Cheraz,
Nice hearing from you mate.Good to see you enjoying Music..The setup-pain just makes it sweeter !
BTW what gain did you finally set the Wadia to for best result s?

the 20-30 listening might be the warm up sound for your system. Usually in my setup just keeping the system on for 15 min and then listening to it later makes it sound really good

Am really missing my hifi which is back at Bangalore..its 2 months since i heard a setup other than dealer demos

Music I listen to: Rock,Jazz, Jazz vocals,Western Classical, Indian Classical (Instrumentals), Hindi songs (Old..not POP!), Gazals...virtually everything except Rap and Metal

Arj, I really don`t know what gain it is on but it seems right for my hearing levels. I usually listen from 45-75 of my 99 max level. I have to have you guys come over and have a nice listening next time you`ll are in Bangalore. Seriously.

I was a 50-50 rock(70`s) and jazz(Davis, ponty, diana krall, freedy Cole.....) listener but after this setup jazz is sounding so different and real, that it is almost an effort now to switch from jazz to any other music.

Manek, I also have liked classical. Reccomend some good big bands orchestra music with piano, trumpets and and violins. What is your take on opera sounds?

For big band stuff its always safe to go in for Ted heath, Tommy dorsey, duke ellington, count basie, harry james.
Robbie williams "swing when you are winning" CD album has some great swing music and is excellently recorded and has become one of my reference cd's. His concert live at albert hall where he sings the same songs as in the album is as good. Get a DVD of it and enjoy !

Artists like Sinatra and Tony bennet have many a recordings with big bands and they indeed are a treat especially with Nelson Riddle orchestra.

For semi-classical I just love mantovani and victor young orchestras. For light classics try the Tchaikovsky's ballets!

Opera I do enjoy from tme to time, my favourite being Jose Carreras and Beniamino Gilgi. My dad likes Placido Domingo better though I must add Placido is real classy too ! Jose van dame is another singer I like along with Tito Gobbi and host of others. Female opera singers I do have a liking towards Madame Cabille, Victoria De Los Angeles, Kiri Te Kanawa.

Violin music is available in plenty and if you are starting to appreciate violins then a popular violin player Andre Rieux does it well. If you want the classics then Tchaikovsky's violin concerto is a great place to start, especially if you have someone like Issac Stern or David Oistrakh palying it. Really lovely :-) The all time favourite of all all violin music, Vivaldi's four seasons could also be a place to start.

How true Manek ..Especially "Winter"..found it one of the most beautiful violin pieces.
Manek ,which album do you have for this ? I have a cd unde Yehudi Menhuin ..and always find tbe music very haunting.

Cheraz, I think Sonus fabers website (www.sonusfaber.com) plays this piece

I have always preferred the Bassist in Jazz. hence love Ray Charles trio...somehow also like Thelonious Monk on the Piano.

Cheraz, there is a Music Gallery , in Frazer town. They apparently have some great Audiophile Labels by Chesky & Telarc. The usually Have good artists with Great recording..

I should be in Bangalore sometime in Spt end..perhaps we could meet then !

Arj & Manek, I agree totally. Vivaldi`s four seasons is really one of violin`s finest reproductions. And Arj, you mean the Ray Brown Trio not Ray Charles Trio is`nt it? I have Ray Brown Trio featuring Monty Alexander and Jeff Hamilton which is very good. Even Chris Botti`s "a thousand kisses deep" and "Night Sessions" is some other very good work on the Trumpet.

I have a definate bias towards any "Wind Instruments" and most definately the piano so Miles Davis is my God and "Kind of Blue" my holy book. Other artist I like are
Steve Tyrell with "Standard Time" and Diana Krall with "the look of love"............

My mistake yes I did mean the ray brown trio !!!
(Ray charles is of course in a different Genre !)
I first heard them play Blue Monk and really loved their music

Funny , but i have started listening to Miles davis...But it is only my iPod now..just itching to get back to my HiFi !

OK so here come violin initiation time !
Hear the Tchaikovsky's violin concerto and the beethoven tripple concerto for violin, cello and piano.

Both classic pieces, masterpieces.

Hey Guys, you`ll are getting a bit carried away on the violin. What I like is the violin but in a jazz beat. Not that I don`t like classical but I listen more to like the ponty type.

Manek,

As far as Violin Concertos go, I will definitely put Tchaikovsky's violin concerto as one of the best five violin concerto ever composed. Other than that, if you get a chance listen to Mozart's fifth violin concerto, Felix Mendelssohn's violin concerto, Beethoven's and Bruch's violin concerto along with Vivaldi's Four Seasons. All of them are heavenly. Actually Bach's violin concertos (most notably Brandenberg concertos) are great to but I prefer them in modern instruments more than baroque instruments. I also love Beethoven's concerto as well. I am dearly waiting for my components to arrive so then I can be in "heaven".

Are you a fan of Piano music too?

hi nad fan,

am a big fan of jazz and classical piano.

you are right...tchaikovsky's violin concerto is one of the finest, I do love the mendelssohns concerto as well.

tchaikovsky's piano concerto 1 and 2 are my favourites followed by beethoven 3rd and emperor, rachmaninov follows with 2 & 3, greig wrote a beautifull one. My favourite artists..Arthur Rubenstein, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Svatoslav Richter.
