Right now I have a rather minimal CD collection, growing slowly. However, as many folks around, I generally find only a couple of songs interesting in each CDs, and hate swapping audio CDs for continuous hearing. So I started creating audio cds this way on PC - encode each CD using flac(a lossless encoding format), and use k3b(on Linux) to burn them onto audio CDs. Now I know that such CD-Rs might not be the best way to reproduce music the same way as brand new CDs in the market. So what would you folks recommend as the best way to create audio CDs? Also, how would CD->flac->CD-R compare to CD->mp3(192-256kbps, VBR)->data CDs with mp3s? |

Hi Sandipb, I think this topic was discussed earlier on this forum, maybe the moderators can help you retreive the discussions.
I dont quite agree with this statement. I have noticed that some CdRs sound much better than the master if copied thru EAC. |

The problem occurs when you 1st rip the CD, and then when you burn it. Using EAC to rip will almost completely eliminate problem #1. No need for flac if you aren't gonna keep the songs on your hard disk. While burning, 1st you need to use good media. Moser Baer will not give you good quality. Use Verbatim, or better still, source some Taiyo Yuden media from Japan or US. Use "Burnn". I think it should perform better than nero. - http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=4 No conclusive reason for this, just a feeling |

Like Zhops has pointed out use EAC...its a freeware and copies CDs into WAV form without any loss. It reads each sector multiple times to ensure no read error occurs. If you are copying the entire CD, create cue/bin files that are exact copies and burn them into CDR. Burnn is a good s/w to burn with, Cheetah is another good shareware. Nero is pretty decent too... |

How is this better than the others ... particularly Nero ? Any Extra features or error correction ? Would like to know, since I have been using Nero for years, and wonder if switching will provide an improvement. Thanks |

Burrn has the option of burning CD's on low speed. But I think this is dependent on the capability of the Drive to burn on low speed and may be on media also. I am doubting this because I burned one ACD with burrn @2X but the burn process got over in 7 mins. And sizeof data was around 720MB. I guess the CD was burned at a higher speed though I selected a lower burn speed. Thanks, Anto. |

Nothing in particular. Except that Burnn's only purpose in life in burning audio CDs. Nero has really turned into super bloatware with the last 2 versions. Useful features are support for flac/ape/etc, as well support for cue+bin files. |

Ok. Some digital age tips from a tube age guy. E&OE. So take it FWIW. Since I became a honest person and stopped using pirated software's, I use the following free stuff:
Nero is a solid application suit, but for audio CD work I don't use it for the following reasons:
For my general purpose (non-audio) CDR or DVD burning, I use the free version of DeepBurner (www.deepburner.com). Most important however is what Burner you are using. A combo DVD/CD writer may not give you best result. I use an older Yamaha CRW 3200E that features AudioMaster mode writing at 2X Finally, always write your CDR at the slowest speed possible |

Guys, need yr help. I copy all CDs on my HDD, using EAC. I create a .cue file and a matching (Single) WAV file for the entire CD.. About 1 of 10 such "Rips" has a corrupted cue sheet, where the cue times are non sequential. Hence can't burn a CD with the cue (corrupted) sheet. I know that there should be a way to re-cteate the cue file by reading off the Large wav file, but dont know how. I am OK with EAC or Adobe Audition (1.5), and would appreciate a solution using either of these 2 programs. Thanks |

Can your Adobe Audition make auto cue by sensing the silence between the tracks in single large wave file? You may need to specify what Audition should look for when auto marking a cue. A silence of 5 seconds? Or a threshold of ?dB's. |

Search the net. The cue file might be available |

Thanks, aks07. Yers, I have seen that option, but I could not get a cue file generated, even though I selected the default parameters of 2 secs and -38dB. I need some 'hand-holding' on the specifics... |

Hi Amp Nut, You can do that using Nero Wave Editor. I guess thats bundled with most CD writers. View the file in expanded form and listen to the tracks, As soon as the track ends mark it with the marker provided. Highlight that track and save it as a seperate track in another folder naming it. Do that for the next track and so on. I did the same thing for the Patricia Barber - Verse CD You had given me. Behram. |

Hi Behram, Yes, I do Exactly that using Adobe Audition.. However its too tedious.... If the cue sheet is generated / regenerated, simply burn as a image file, and you will get the exact config of the original CD.... |

This is a typical issue I face when making digital restoration of Vinyl. I usually make one large WAV file for one side of a LP. After all the digital processing (clicks, noise removal etc), the resulting single WAV file needs to be chopped down to individual files for writing to CD. For restoration I use Enhanced Audio Diamond Cut (ver 5). And once everything is done, I run a feature called “silence marking”. Then I manually review once to ensure that the markers are in the right place. Thereafter the software can automatically chop the large Wav file down to individual files. This is the best automated method for me. Downloading DC and try. You should be able to do all your files during the trial period. Doing this manually sucs if you have several large files. |

Thanks, aks07. Will check it out. Yes, the manual chop is PAINFUL. Have to also be careful to sequence the songs perfectly, so that later, when the CD is burnt, freedb will retrive the Album, artist and individual sonmg names ! |
