Hi all DIY Gurus,

I am planning to build a DIY 12" (or more) sub for my HT and music. My problem is getting a good quality woofer and a good plate amp with good power(>250w continuous). If possible, planning to use passive radiators for port free design for low frequency extension. Where can i find a better deal? Please help.. (I am from Bangalore)

Initially i was planning for a 12" Polk audio DSW PRO 600 or Velodyne Impact 12. On speaking with some DIY gurus, esp. George, i made up my mind to go DIY route. Please help..

Hi

Since you are going the diy way, you do have a choice of making your sub room friendly, suited to your room size atleast. I am not sure if a 12" will overload your room.

Since you want it for music and ht, maybe a 10" would be a good compromise with regards to speed and freq response.

Just a thought.

I am having an 8" Onkyo sub and probably i will convert it to a sealed box design to suit a music sub. For HT i will go for a 12" sub with good lower freq extension. Which is the best option available? How much will be the cost?

Start with an Eminence Lab12 driver. Should be available in India.
You could use a plate amp or a separate amp (rack mount perhaps) to power the sub. Try looking for a used power amp that can be wired in bridge mode into 4 ohms.

PM forum member surrealistix. He has built himself one in the recent past. In fact his efforts have been chronicled in a separate thread.

Heh..seems like surreal is using the same Eminence Lab 12 driver. I too found it to be one of the best drivers available in India. Good price too.

Hitting up surreal for more info/guidance would be the way to go. use his design as a benchmark and/or starting point.
