Hi Folks,
I have a brand new Denon 110 cart, one channel of which is dead. Does anyone know a person / place where I can send it to for repair. It came by ordinary post from Japan, and must have suffered a bad jolt on the way. Am trying find out if some one can check it out in Jaipur, but its unlikely. Any helpline will be appreciated.

hi purnendu,

speak to mr sushil of nova audio. he deals in project and gets carts for his customers. he might be able to help or recommend someone who does repairs. its probably just the wire that's jolted loose? am guessing here.

by the way is it a mm or an mc cart?

regards

Hi,
Its a high output moving coil. I have already tried contacting Sushilji through an email regarding another component that needs some attention. Have not heard from him yet. Probably he is busy and will get back.

Could you please share Sushil's email ID. I want to purchase a DJ cartridge for my friend's Technics SL-230 record player.

You must be really feeling cheated to have purchased a 'dummy' cartridge. I wonder if purchasing blind (without testing) is worth the risk

The Denon is a CLASSIC Moving Coil cart.

Because of its High output, can be used without a mc pre amp..

Would have LOVED to own one.

Unfortunately, no new vinyl available in India, so I have decided to exit vinyl.... but ENJOY hearing in, wheneve I get the opportunity..

Hi Neutral,
I would not really call it a dummy. Only one channel is dead. The one that works sound just lovely!!! By the way I did not buy it without listening, this is in fact my second DL110. I ran the first one on my earlier turntable for some five years, before the needle gave.
If you are on the look for a cart for the technics, you might want to consider the Shure M97xe which I have been using for the past two years. It does not have the high freq sparkle of the Denon, but is easy to listen to and refined. It will not be ideal for rock however. The Shure dealer is in Delhi, service is very good.

Thanks Amp Nut,

I have contacted Sushil. Got a quote for an Ortofon cartridge.

Purnendu,

Could you please give me the contact details and email of the Shure dealer. I want to get at least two quotes before taking any decision. I would prefer a rugged DJ cartridge over a relatively fragile 'audiophile' one.

Neutral,
What Ortofon are you thinking of going for.

I have the address of Shure Delhi in the receipt some where. Will rummage over the week end and let you know.

About the fragility, unless you are into Djing I would not worry too much. From what I gather DJ cartridges have a differennt sort of balance, and are not really made for accuracy. As far as the shure m97 x is concerned there is no problem in construction. I have used it for over two years now and its works robustly. It has a non agressive sound which is hard to fault.

Neutral,
Sorry for the delayed response, but here you are:
The name of the Shure dealer is
Sun Infonet Pvt. Limited, 3/31, west Patel Nagar, New Delhi - 110008. Ph. 25880728-31; Fax 25889252; email info@sungroup.net ; web site www.sungroup.net.
the person I communicated with was a Mr. Neeraj Chandra. That was august 2005. The M97xe cost me Rs. 4600 then.
