I attended the concert last evening. It felt a bit surreal watching Ian Anderson play in Shanmukhanand Hall, a venue that you would associate with the likes of either Semmangudi Srinivas Iyer or Lata Mangeskar, but hardly with a rock group like Tull. Also perhaps the thought watching somebody like Ian Anderson, who I hold in God like esteem, playing in my backyard ( I live five minutes away from the Sabha ) added to the feeling.

Alms for Shanti opened the evenings performance. They were very, very, very bad. Mercifully they played a very brief set.

while I'm at it, I might as well ask - What is it with all these Indian rock groups sporting the mandatory Indian musician, a Mridangam player in this case.Takdum, Thakdum is how someone I know described the end result.

This kinda fusion, just does not work, in fact it jars, like Annu Mallik on a good day.

Those of you in B'lore attending the concert tomorrow should do yourself a favour and land up at least 45 minutes after the scheduled time.Unless of course you are big fans of Uday Benegal and Jayesh Gandhi.

Mercifully Jethro Tull more than made up for Alms For Shanti.Their set consisted of classics like Thick as Brick, Aqalung,Jacks In the Green...It also included a few of Anderson's new instrumetal pieces. The man had the audience in the palm of his hand and a great time was had by all.

Hope you guys have a great time as well

Thanks for the feedback. JT's 'Songs from the wood', 'Thick as a brick' and Ian Anderson's 'Divinities' are albums that would come in my top 25 albums of all time among 1000+ albums I have listened till date. Feeling quite lucky to see them live. Looking forward to tomorrow's show.

whooooo that was one awesome show. the guy played the crowd brilliantly with wit and charm. and the music. aaaaahhhh. at one point his flute fell down/broke? something happened and he changed flutes, assembling the next one on stage without missing a beat. almost missed catching the set list thrown at the end of the show but what the hell. was worth it. thankfully alms for shanti didnt open. thermal and a quarter did. took too long in my opinion. was anyone else there besides diskspinner?

and yeah he played some bach and mozart improvised in true tull style of course. and my fav bouree the last one locomotive breath u could prob have run bangalore for a day on the energy levels. he sure can still rock!

Hi guys,

The Tull concert was great! Did anyone of you catch them the last time they were here? Martin Barre was with the band that time although the young replacement (forgot his name now) was not too bad- played in the Tull mode!

Ian A is always a treat! But he is old now and cant hit the high notes as he used to. Never mind! We can accept him, warts and all!!

Songs from the Wood, Thick as a Brick and Crest of a knave are my favourites in Tull set. I have them all tho!! Been my favourite band for the past 20 years!!
Never too old to rock and roll!!

Cheers
CKN

ps. Does anyone know the line up of the current Uriah Heep? Is Ken Hensley still there? Who is doing the vocals and drums now? The original band was great- who can forget July Morning and Return to Fantasy (and so many others!)

Yeah, Tull show was great.

Regarding Uriah-heep, as far as I know the present line-up is

Bernie Shaw (vocal), Mick Box (lead guitar), Trevor Bolder (bass), Phil Lanzon (keyboard), Lee Karslake (drums)

But the above lineup was formed in 1986 and it is still unchanged.

David Byron in the 70's itself and Ken Hesley in 1980. Mick Box is the only original member still remaining with the band.
