Hi Abhi.Pani, I saw your reply in Nimz's thread. I didn't want to change the topic, so I started a new one here. I have the Sony SS-MF650H towers. I agree that they are not the best speakers, but I'm on a tight budget. The speakers ratings are Max. 180W rms into 8 ohms. 89dB/1W/1m sensitivity. They have not given any rated power, but it is recommended with the Sony STR-DE-598 which is approx. 50-60W rms/ch. I checked it with the Onkyo TX8211 receiver(15k) too and liked the sound. The amp is rated at 50W rms/channel. I'm just checking out the other options before I finalise. They are Sonodyne Sia8002R Yamaha AX397 (60W/ch) Yamaha AX497 (85W/ch) Yamaha Rxv397 (100W/ch) Yamaha Rxv497 (85W/ch) I want a remote with the amp and hence Pulz is not in the list. Any help appreciated. Bibs |

If you dont listen at very high volume then Sonodyne is good. Else if you usually like to blast your speakers then go for Yamaha AX497. Why i said this is because Sonodyne sounds very good at moderate volumes but as you crank it up to very high volumes, it tends to lose its composure. Yammys on the other hand sounds fine even at higher volumes but cant match the Sonodynes musicality at moderate volumes. |

Hi, Yes , its the Sia102R I was talking abt. I managed an audition of The speakers with the RXV457 AV receiverand the AX497 amp. The bass was booming too much. I felt that my speakers and the amps did not suit each other. The salesman opined that nowadays most of the amps are designed for 4 ohm speaker loads and may not suit 8 ohm speakers. The SS-MF650H is an 8 ohm speaker. I had no way of checking the sonodyne with my speakers. That left only the new Sony STR-DE498 receiver which was recommended for these speakers. I got an audition at Modern world ( I have to give special mention to Mr. Sifaddar and Mr. Saif, who were very co-operative ) The Sony drove the speakers the cleanest at low freq.s. I bought it ( I was spending too much on petrol, running around) Once back home, the speakers started booming again. I moved them around and waited for a day, now they sem to have settled. So that's it. Thanks a lot Abhi.pani for all the tips and guidance. Bibs |

Hi, I understand that Sony does not market integrated amps here in India. I'd read abt the TA-FB940, but it is not available here. The amp I bought is an AV receiver STR-DE-598. It is an entry level receiver with entry level features and entrylevel sound. The Sony amp + Sony speakers boom a bit on certain recordings, but less than the Yamaha+ Sony speakers or Onkyo + Sony speakers.( These were the oly ones I could get a demo ) I've tried adjusting the location of the speakers and also put them up on rudimentary stone stands, but doesn't seem to help very much. Any tips appreciated. One more advice I need from U is the power supply part. I've got an Mx brand spike buster. It is basically an extender. Should I go in for a voltage stabiliser or will a spike buster do? If U recommend a stabiliser, which brand ? ( or which spikebuster?) I have a DVD player and a TV also on the same rack. Thanks Bibs |
