Folks at HIFI-FORUM,

I purchased a Onkyo HTS-570 from Modern World (A Onkyo dealer on M.G. Road) and I was surprised to get a US model delivered to my home. On enquiring I was told it is the normal practice here in bangalore to provide a step down transformer and US model. Is it true?

This poses two problems -

1. The step down transformer is unbranded and may affect the HT (Does it? What is the solution?)

2. I am not getting AM stations on the set. Even Fm stations are week (After installing the Antenna). How do I solve this problem?

Would appreciate suggestion on how to take this up further.

Thats absolute BS. I have visited almost all the major retailers stocking Onkyo in Chennai and nobody has ever shown me a US model. Whenever I have checked the back panel, be it a speaker, subwoofer, receiver or stereo amplifier, it has always been a "made in China" label that has stared back at me. However this is Chennai and I don't know if the practice differs in Bangalore. Considering the retail presence and investement that Onlyo has made in India, I think it is highly improbable that it could be a "normal practice".

Has he given you the set a price much below market prevalent rates(after considering the huge discounts anyway on offer for both the 570 and 670 sets)??

writing from delhi- here also onkyo supplies india specific models- some time back i was fixated on the hts670 and specifically checked about the voltage bit-

plain and simple call up the onkyo head office in chennai, complain and get an india specifide model-

you can get the numbers from the onyo india web site-

Are you sure that this guy is a dealer or just someone selling grey market goods?

Dealers generally sell international models which either work at 220 volts or have switchable setting for both 110/220 volts. The same goes for scanning frequency for FM, it is generally switchable.

If I remember correctly, there is an Onkyo dealer at Gem Plaza, Infantry road, u can also go and confirm there.

hey thats nonsense just pack it and throw back at the guy who sold you...Modern world is known gfrom before fir fradulent dealings..threaten him that you'll complain to the press and onkyo guys

These people have openly cheated you....how can they do this when there are so many onkyo outlets there and you can easily verify ??? Man you got to mind this and throw it back.

since the dealer has given you a US model,
ask him to give it to you at the US price

I'm sure these are all smuggled stuff and carry no warranty in future..as American models have no warranty once it gets out, So man throw it back and get the Indian model. If I were you I would take a onkyo rep to Modern world to rip those foolin bastards..c'mon man it's your hard earned money..BTW how much did you pay
