The part about families and the WAF was bang on!

Very nice Krish. Really an interesting read. Especially the part where he hints that maybe the HT guys are getting it right. Think they are? I dunno... I bought myself a Marantz receiver to set up a good 5.1 (no, my room won't support a 6.1) system. I'm still listening to it in stereo mode. I dunno if I should change the receiver and buy a dedicated 2 channel amp. My peers say it's what will give 'purer' stereo sound. My heart says it's OK. My wife says "I want FM!". My audiophile head says "You're not a true audiophile if you're satisfied listening to stereo on an AVR.".

Am I not? Am I? Whom should I listen to? Heart? Head? Peers? Wife? What about tubes? These questions have bogged me down for the last few months. After reading this article, maybe I have the answer. Maybe I'll pay a deaf ear to all of them. Maybe tonight I'll listen to music instead!

please do pay attention to your wife..if fm is what she wants, give it to her!....keep the wives happy anf they will let you keep your stereo.

It's an SR 4400. Very decent stereo performance in S-Direct mode.

heard the same receiver 4400 2 weeks ago and it really gace decent stereo performance...I was quite pleasantly surprised, 14K( in the grey market) I think.

BTW this 4400 also has some decent internal stereo dacs so connecting a dvd player such as sony, pioneer etc as transport via a digital rca cable is not a bad idea for an entry level combo which will give good stereo for its price.

14? Damn! I bought it in Jan 2005 for 20K. With papers of course.

But may be it was not available at 14k then...

sharukh....its bound to cost more with papers.....grey market holds no warranty as well....but nevertheless for 20k(which you paid) you get a lot of amp, pleasant sounding and features

Yeah! That's a consolation. And I'm happy to see it that way. But there's always that niggling feeling. "Wouldn't a good stereo amp be better?"

for the same price all you will get is a nad 320bee and I dont think the differnce is huge...maybe a few compromises with the marantz but then also a lot of features and flexibility. Try the marantz with a good Power cable like I did...it will surprise you !

supra(lakozy)...or Designer audio. I heard it with the supra.....
