http://www.atma-sphere.com/papers/paradigm_paper2.html I have always been wondering about the sonic side effects of negative feedback. Please shed some light. |

abhi, Nice article. my understanding and "take-away":this is a much debated topic again (like SOTA ). from a engineering point (Control Systems) of view -ve feedback is essential to ensure control of the output for any system. But the audio view says that it corrupts the signal..Just like Passive vs active or Transformer coupled Vs OTL , single driver Vs Multi etc etc. The logic is difficult to beat theoretically for a non technical layman like me but i guess in the real world, there are too many problems which have to be countered and designed around to get a good product, the final result is almost always a result of some compromise.(Transformers, switching distortion, THD, dynamic power, transformers, tubes.....and the list goes on) Hence careful final design and implementation quality is all that matters.. so just like Class A is theoretically better design, a good class AB can also sound very good, I believe same is the case with -ve feedback. in the end every manufacturer needs a USP as to what makes it different and follow a school of thought..this may just be one of them. BTW The Atma Spheres are really good amps from all i have heard. getting into tubes ? i understand that technically tube designs have lower Negetive feedback [Beitrag von Arj am 28. Not necessarily - I know of several Quicksilver tube designs that use 20-25dB of global negative feedback. |
