Another good read: DigVs Analogue :testing ;)

I guess most of us who have been exposed to good analogue sound prefer it when you compare a half decent turntable sound to a similarly priced cd based setup. The problem may not be in the tech aspect of digital sound. It is probably in the implementation and process involved in the recording and cd production in the digital domain and playback/conversion issues which are screwing up the sound. Play a JVC XRCD on a high-end digital setup and you will know that there is nothing terribly wrong with the digital medium. But for all practical purposes the Miles davis-kind of blue LP rips the cd to shreds if played on a similarly priced TT from my experience. If they come out with an XRCD for the same and if you play it on a wadia, the difference may not be much……..

Anyway the above test process was interesting.. about the test results it doesnot really matter.

One problem wit the test, from what I see, was sonic signatures of the ADC/DAC. doe to that the test result was a bit surprising.

I wonder if it is fair to compare early renderings of digital audio (February 23, 1984 the date the comparision was made according to the link) with what is present today !

what he is doing is digitising and then reconversion back to analogue of the same signal to give the digital effect... it may not compare with the digital recordings of today (For better or for worse..to continue with my fencesitter stance !)
