I am based at Bangalore and am in need of a turntable in good condition...any suggestions?

It all depends on your budget.
There are a number of brands available in India like Thorens/Project/Rega.
Perhaps you could even try some used turntable but you will need to work hard at finding a decent one.
I recently saw turntables from Korea (I think)in a shop on Brigade road. The prices are between 3k and 5k. Please dont ask me the quality because I did not hear them. One of them, the most expensive one looked a bit like the Technics model. The shop is called Sharp, is located between the Sony showroom and Photospeed (Olympus showroom).

Do these turtables have built-in amplifiers or do we have to buy seperate ones.

I had a old HMV turntable with a 10 watt per channel. Of course, this HMV is not working and I have given it to one guy here for repairs. lets c when he gets back.

I have in the recent past had the misfortune of buying a turntable from the shop that jeeves mentions. Please do not repeat my mistake, they sound terrible!!!..

Yes 2 of the models have built in amps.
Anyway what ninjamusic has to say about them is not very encouraging! Caveat Emptor...Buyers Beware!

I believe best place in Bangalore to check out for Turnatble is Prithvi's Absolue Phase.

Also, I won't recommend you to buy a turntable with amp. Typically it is not a scalable model. Buy a turtable adn use it with a good stereo amp which supports the type of cartridge you would be using.
