Going by monickers, that would possibly be Sub's domain.

I'm still in a transition from HT to pure stereo, but will bet my ass that 2ch set up will dig your as* deeper than a HT set up... , But my vote will go for 2CH stereo. Yo big man Prithvi another specimen into your wagon....

Its 75:25 (Stereo:HT) for me and I must agree that I am yet to start with any transition like Sub-Boss.
I like movies and their effects give me much better kick in the surround mode than in the Stereo mode so cant forget them altogether.....


For Music nothing can replace Stereo to my ears yet....so its still 75:25 !!!

.....assuming you want one solution for your audio requirement.

1) Pure stereo - Try something like NAD or CA electronics (CDP + Amp) along with good speakers :

Budget : Rs.50,000 to "no limit"

2) HT Only - Try something like HTB's or entry level separates from yamaha, sony, etc.

Budget Rs.15,000 to Rs.1,00,000

3) 50% Stereo + 50% HT - then look at (i) Denon AV 3805 / Arcam A300, etc., (ii) Mid-End players like Pioneer 733 and (iii) good set of 5 speakers :

Budget : Rs. 1.8 lakhs to 5 lakhs

4) For those Rich folks, who want 75% Stereo + 25% HT....look at (i) hi-end DVD/universal player from Denon, Arcam, Linn etc., (ii) a processor from Rotel or Proceed or Krell, (iii) a multi-channel power amp from Parasound, Rotel, Krell, etc., and (iv) 5 excellent Speakers :

Budget Rs.5 lakhs to "No limit"

Best solution is to keep Stereo and HT Setup separately. Its actually cost-effective that way

I think what prithvi really wants to know is whether individuals would desire Stereo (or) HT alone (or) a HT system that will compromise a bit of stereo. Given the choices what system would you prefer to purchase ?

(Those who would prefer to buy two separate system for Stereo and HT, should ideally vote for "Stereo")

As far as separate Stereo and HT setup is concerned....I think that is what most members on this forum (who even think of HT) would want for themselves !!!!

I still suggest Prithvi to add one more option to the list for a more "ACCURATE" polling.

Personally I love 2ch only, no HT for me (my wife see's this I am really going to get it:cut)no wonder I dont ever intend having a HT at home. To each his own!:D

Ok, Prithvi then what do you mean by 50:50 ? Is it the ratio of amount of likeness towards each type or the Components ratio one wants to have at home ?

The two things are quite different I suppose, because they two are for entirely different purposes (though some people try to integrate them into one, and forgetting DVD Audio for the present).

Inclination towards movies will always appeal someone to have a HT but that doesnt dilute his interest towards Stereo Music...right !!! In that case what does he Vote ?

If you have to stick two these three options then you got to show the proper way to vote !!

But yes I would definitely like to have both, with almost first 70% of my money going into stereo and 30% to HT(step by step). Obviously there will be some common components like the towers.

Yes, it is difficult and almost impossible for starters like us to get everything in one shot, we got to build step by step. You have already taken the first step Sub and I am on the verge of taking it...

But where is Prithvi....he got to answer our questions !!
