Would this start a trend of recruiting/working with engineers and parts from other streams to raise the bar ?

I am considering getting a MAC mini to use a transport with my main speaker rig.

I can hook the video out to my TV and then use the USB out to a M2Tech HiFACE or even use the mini optical out form the MacMini.

Any opinions on going this route? Or should i be looking at going for a pure SSD alternative like a tablet PC.

Savya, Mac Mini is a great idea. You can even add an SSD and do some OS mods to make it a really hi-end transport. Apparently

these guys give you a fully modded Mac Mini for music playback at a price.

The mods they do are listed somewhere. So if you're a computer geek (which I guess you are), you can buy a 2010 Mini and carry out the mods yourself.

I say 2010, because the new Mini has no disc reader, so ripping becomes an issue.

i bought a mac mini from a friend that is just a year old with very decent specs for just 200 with snow leopard installed on it.

It will be replacing my playstation 3 console as my source

FWIW, reports on the net talk of Snow Leopard and the new Mac Mini sounding worse that the old model ... ( that is besides the fact that the new Mac Mini does not have a disc spinner to rip...)
