hi Squarewave.. The main disadvantage is to match those army of drivers... which is extremely hard and finally it would lead to different sonic signature... theoritically I accept the advantages but in real life its not perfect and not even close to perfect... cheers, Sandeep |

Sandeep, I do not totally agree w/ you on this & I say this from my personal experience of listening to (1) the real expensive Pipedreams line array, which has those 4' tall sub-woofer cylinders & (2) my local friend's Selah Audio Excel Array. (3) the Martin-Logan Statement E2. This is not a line array in the true sense as the tweeter is a ES panel but the mid-bass is a line array of 6 mid-woofers & is superbly integrated to the ES panel. The 1 & only speaker that I like of M-L. (I have not heard the CLS II full-range panel but they tell me that the CLS II is awesome sounding.) I do agree that matching those drivers is the challenge but it can be done to really good effect. My ears tell me so! Also, there is no audio speaker that is "perfect" & there never will be. However, the 3 above cited line arrays that I have heard convey the emotion of the music really well. IMHO, the Selah Audio Excel Array sounded better than the 10X more expensive Pipedreams & the M-L Statement E2 also sounded better than the Pipedreams. I know that Danny Richie & his biz partner Jeff Glowaki (hence the company name GR Research) make some very good sounding line arrays - it's their main line of biz. |
