they may be available with audio dealers but I'm sure they will cost a bomb !

best if you could either use amazon or get them from abroad.

What kind of tests do you want to conduct ?
I have a few. They dont contain any good music to listen. They would just tell you whether your stereo (I have only for stereo) is placed and sounding right. Whether there is a boom at the listening position...whether you are getting the image right and apart from that the Burmester test CD (sent to me by amp_nut )

I have a Chesky test and demo CD. nice music and you have instructions on what to look for in each piece.

That was a very helpful test cd. Have a couple more..but honestly the music is downright boring in them !

Except for the burmester cd. that is a very interesting collection. The last two tracks (Stimela and Poem of Chinese drums) are a wonderful test of the bass response)

Also, it may make the audiophiles among us gast, but the sheffield labs drum track is really really boring !


From an indian music perspective, I find the voices of Jagajit singh, Bhupinder and Jesudas one of the very good tests for midrange/lower midrange. they have multiple levels to their sound (Something like Chris Rhea, belafonte ..)and it does not always sound like only one voice singing.. that resonance from their throats is too good and smooth.

Similiarly Shubha Mudgals voice is very interesting in the female singers and difficult to produce.

If you have a copy of "Space" which was released by Music infdia series long time back, the compositions by Zakir Husszain and Taufiq Quereshi can test out the upper bass as well as imaging capabilities very well ! (I think a track called Zen of space has a piece where they clap to create percussion sound and if the imaging is good the claps can be positioned on different locatoins on a 3D space)

Hi ditto here I too find sheffield boring and infact use Jagjit singh, Yesudas as well as S.P.Balasubramiam to test mids and lower mids and Chitra for female vocals.

Try this:

Copy all the tracks to your a CD in ACD format so that your DP can read them and play it.

It has tones from 10hz to 300hz. At each hz it plays for 10secs. To know which hertz is being played now, just go through the small article and its very easy.

You will immediately know at which all frequecies your room is creating trouble and hence treat it accordingly.

this disc will help out in checking transparency, midrange purity, imaging etc etc.

IMHO,avoid the rest of the chesky test discs they are more of samplers !

This is the most AWESOME CD for the purpose.

I was going to send you a copy, but just download... the mp-3 files are not large.

The 1 Hz apart test tones, scan your rooom with a MAGNIFYING glass.

No need for a meter, even your ears will tell you...

It really is a magnifying glass, that tells you the bitter truth about how your room is playing havoc with your passion (Music). Could you point out how to tackle these room nodes ? Especially the nodes which create boom !!

Sorry.... besides the routine stuff ....not my area of expertise...

The same site - RealTraps also does provide tips... ofcourse, using their products, but no reason why you cannot use other stuff like foam, or even roll up carpets standing vertically, in corners.

Maybe someone else like bhagwan69 who has the know how will share ?

Has anyone tried "egg-crate" as sound absorbers & diffusers ?
