hi all,

Me just got an SR 4600. Am looking at a cost effective protection against voltage fluctuations etc.

What woudl u suggest?

A 0.5 KV voltage stabiliser is wot the dealer suggested.

Would like to know forum members takes on this?

thanks

hi

Try v-guard's electronic stab L 100. It is 1 kva and will cost around 2.1 k.

thanks nietzsche.

But is 1 KVA the minimum required for an AVR?

A 0.6 KVA UPS (ones used for PCs) is less than 2K...

Would an UPS be better than a stabiliser?

Guess am a lil too ignorant on these matters...

thanks for the help!!

Buy a good servo stabilizer with a built in isolation transformer. 1kva is good as you may need headroom and you can put your cdp/dvd and tv on it too.

avoid the small UPS systems....they dont give good sine wave output when switched on battery.

Was thinking on the V Guard 1 KVA servo stabiliser.

Now i shall go for it!!!

Hi,

If the voltage fluctates frequently, servo motor will rotate to make correction and it will make noise. The brush needs cleaning once in a year.

If possible try a CVT, if it is isolated properly, it won't give any hum. Keep it away as far as possible from the AVR.

Try v-guard servo electronics stab. preferably go for 1 kva servo, so that u can connect CDP also.
As suggested by manek, avoid ups.

This is a very helpful thread. I do have an additional question though, if I may:
Which heavy-duty UPS would anyone recommend?

I understand that a weak UPS is unadvisable for the reasons cited. However isn't it also a valid point that if there is loss of power (as happens very often in our dear country), and the speakers are playing at a fairly high volume, they will be brought to rest suddenly with that awful thump? As a layperson I would think that a UPS would merely serve as a safeguard against this and allow the user to power down the equipment after taking the usual step of turning down the volume.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

I dont think so. As soon as the power is interrupted the output relay de-energizes thus disconnecting the speakers. There will be no such thump. Exceptions to the rule, when there is a large electrolytic cap in parallel with the relay coil !
