Hello all. I'm on the verge of buying my first hi-fi separates, and have been sorely tempted by glowing reviews for the Marantz PM7200. However, I have heard that they are prone to overheating and tinny sound, and have even had defective models in circulation. I was wanting to use it in combination with Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 speakers. Can anyone put my mind at rest and offer their own views on this piece of kit? Thanks. |

HappyOtter, I had auditioned the PM7200 (It is built like a TANK!) more than 6 months back, primarily due to its Class A option it had. I had compared it with the Rotel Ra02 and NAD 320BEE. I found the Marantz (Along with the CD6000OSE) to be quite detailed and pretty good . But the Hyped Class A operation turned out to be a letdown. "Detailed" could sound tinny with poor speakers/cables But from what I have heard the NAD/8.1 is a very popular combination especially as the Marantz is a Whopping 95W/ch...somthign of an Overkill for your speakers. Unless you have a planned upgrade soon ! (Another good combination is with the Arcam A65) If Budget permits, go for the NAD320 and If possible get a QUAD11L speaker(Even if used), A much better combination IMHO... I have heard about Marantz Quality Control issues ..but that was more on their CDP's...anyway if you are getting it from a dealer there always is a 1 year warranty. [Beitrag von Arj am 04. hey...arj is right... nad 320bee is the way to go with the 8.1. actually 11L are a better option. If it were wharfedate I would go for the 8.2 with a bigger mid/bass driver and its a minimal increase in cost. Startling different between the 8.1 and 8.2 If you get good used quad 12L even better.... |
