Pretty good speakers with the right amplification. Wonderful bass respose, great lookers and very coherent. Whats the price of the 2CE signature there ? |

I'm afraid that I have a contrarian view on these speakers vs. Arj - I've always found them to be rather laid back & far too mellow. Often I felt that I could just doze off listening to the music! This was certainly the case when I heard the Vandersteen 5A w/ Rowland Model 10 amps. Their wood finishes are about the best thing in these speakers. Owing to their rather laid back tone I've found that one needs to get an aggressive amp (like one of those horrid sounding modern Audio Research ones. BTW, Audio Research usually demos their gear at shows w/ Vandersteen speakers 'cuz it used to be their ref speaker to voice their amps) to make the speaker come alive. Then, if one sells off the speaker one realizes the aggressive amp doesn't sound good on any other more neutral speaker. So, it becomes a case of change-speaker-must-change-amplifier. That can be expensive! Just my opinion from listening to them. FWIW. YMMV. |

well in a way I could say they are laid back. In fact I found them lacking dynamism. I was on to horns during that time and heard these being run by a tube amp and did find it not dynamic enough. But i do know folks who say these are as dynamic as any other as well.. hece would leave it all to the grey area od subjectivism I think they get along well the old Audiolab 8000 amps and some Musical Fidelity amps |
