Hi all I am new Mumbai based member of this forum & also new to audio world I recently purchased Yamaha RX-V450 with Bose AM5 speakers & plan to have a 5.1 system in stages I have certain Queries on the subject : 1. Need help on positioning the Sats & subs to improve sound The product manual has limited information. My current placement of sats is 3 ft apart, 1 ft away from wall on a TV set, Sub on Gr level in a corner facing wall.Room size 15 X 12 ft 2. The cables provided with Bose AM5 are simple cables would it really help in going in for better cables & connectors. Where can I buy these in Mumbai. Budgets would be Rs 1K max. I have checked with Sanen Aucos. at Mulund they have cables at Rs 20-30 per mtr, is it a good option 3. The connection to speakers is 2 pair of cables Frt-L&R from Amp which get into sub module and sats get connected from sub. In such case I am unable to select the 3 channel output (Frt L&R + Centre) available from amp. Will such selection give better sound ?? Please suggest. Thanks in advance |

Hi Nitin, I have a similiar setup but with Bose AM3 and an Onkyo. Since the coverage of Voice in the AM5 os not very good, I would either suggest the VCS10 center speaker and any matching surrounds if you want an all bose setup OR you can think of the Wharfedale WH2 center and dipole speaker pair..they match quite well for sensitivity. Regarding cables would suggest retaining the Bose cables. i did upgrade to slightly expensice QED flatwire..but there is not much diference. What could make a differen is a SUB as the bassmodule does not go low enough. |

Wow, this thread reminded me of my system in India - Bose Am5 II + Yammy Stereo amp. Need to sell it, the next time I come there. It is lying as such in my home, since my parents do not use it much. BTW, who is the Bose dealer in Mumbai now? Way back in 1994 they were located in Dadar, but closed shop except for servicing and moved to Delhi. |

regarding positioning.. keep it around 2m-3 from theTV and such that the two speakers, and the center channel forms an Arc with you as the center. place the acoustimass inthe corner which has 2 solid walls, with the woofer pointing to the front. Regarding the center channel speaker, since you do not have one, you cannot use the output. you will have to play the receiver in the 2.1 dolby mode or stereo mode (varies from receiver to receiver). Whenever you upgrade, get the center channel as in a 5.1 setup that actually playes 60-75% of all sound ! hence is more important than the main speakers also ! |
